Job Summary

The ICE Health Services Corps (IHSC) exists within the organizational structure of the UnitedStates Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO)under the supervision of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The United States PublicHealth Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps Officers, civil service staff and contractorscomprise the healthcare professionals working together to provide quality healthcare services.IHSC serves as the medical experts for ICE for detainee health care.

 

MISSION

IHSC’s mission is to provide medical care to maintain the health of individuals in the custody ofICE through an integrated health care delivery system, based on nationally recognized correctional,detention and residential health care standards. The Agency is committed to providing healthcareservices to protect the nation’s health, reduce global disease and provide medical support for thelaw enforcement mission of the safe apprehension, enforcement and removal of detainedindividuals involved in immigration proceedings. IHSC is committed to ensuring a system of carethat is ethical, responsible, and accountable through rigorous surveillance and monitoring activities.

Primary Responsibilities

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

  • Knowledge of the credentialing and privileging process, requirements and scope of practice.Ability to manage multiple tasks, to prioritize needs and expedite credentialing uponrequest.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment.
  • Ability to adapt to sudden changes in schedules and flexibility in work requirements.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently in English (verbal and written) in order to developpositive rapport with co-workers and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships in a multidisciplinaryenvironment.
  • Ability to navigate in an electronic work environment including web based research,training and communications.
  • Knowledge of, and moderate proficiency in, common Microsoft Office programs,specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patientmedical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for all functions related to healthcare worker and other contractor staffcredentialing, re-credentialing and privileging in accordance with regulatory/complianceguidelines as well as IHSC requirements.
  • Responsible for obtaining and verifying credentials, certifications, state licensures, and otherprofessional credentials as well as maintaining on-going checks to ensure that all credentialsremain current.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the credential/privileging files, whether in hardcopy or electronic form.
  • Initiates and follows through on all aspects of the credentialing process, including initial and re-credentialing, for all healthcare and other staff as needed.
  • Prepares and generates healthcare worker and other staff credentialing/privileging packets andprovides guidance to ensure timely completion.
  • Conduct various background checks from a wide variety of sources as needed to verify thecredentials and suitability of candidates, including but not limited to: NPDB, OIG/GSA,National Sex Offender Registry, and the National Student Clearinghouse.
  • Maintains new hire as well as on-going credential files for IHSC staff, and makes themaccessible as needed. Ensure they contain evidence of all certifications required, includingtraining requirements.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining the currency of all credential files. Verify that annualor other training/licensure is completed on a timely basis, and that credential files are updatedto reflect the current status of all staff
  • Produce monthly and ad hoc reports to identify any missing data or credentials, anycredentials/certifications that are lapsing, and the status of employees’ credential files

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • One year credentialing experience, preferably in the medical/healthcare environment.
  • In lieu of Degree - extensive work experience of at least three to fiveyears (3 – 5 years) as a credentialing specialist in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in automated credentialing systems.

 

REQURED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) by the National Association Medical StaffServices must be obtained within 18 months of hire
