This is an opportunity to impact the future of the United States Federal Courts and officers in the field through your innovation and creativity. Combine your knowledge, talent and skills with state-of-the-art tools and technology to provide users with the most superior experience in class.

If you are a Database Administrator with a strong background in large scale, complex applications, and Extensible Markup Language (XML) processing, we want you to join our team at US Courts in Washington DC. Become a critical part of GDIT’s team to support the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AO) Product Development Office (PDO) suite of computer and automated software applications.  PDO supports a broad range of complex business systems which are instrumental to the AO mission.

The Database Administrator will execute the following responsibilities:

  • Provide support for discovery and source assessment, schema design, data mapping, migration development, transition and cut over planning, production execution and maintenance.
  • Inventory, catalog, and analyze all Extensible Markup Language (XML) data sources, including schemas, Document Type Definitions (DTDs), and XML Schema Definitions (XSDs).
  • Provide a comprehensive Discovery and Assessment Report that catalogs source structures, update frequencies, XSD/DTD constraints, and discovered data anomalies.
  • Plan and implement a repeatable data migration strategy of XML data into a normalized relational database schema.
  • Design a normalized relational schema and map XML hierarchies to tables, keys, and indexes. Establish parent-child relationships and junction tables for many-to-many relationships.
  • Provide an Entity-Relationship Diagram (ERD) and a Data Dictionary detailing the target relational database structure and mappings.
  • Develop Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) routines utilizing database-native SQL (such as T-SQL) embedded with XPath/XQuery expressions, or language-specific XML parsers.
  • Create and maintain an audit log of migrated and unmigrated records for each data source.
  • Track dates of repeated migrations and updates for identical records. Conduct unit tests for data verification and reconciliation.
  • Generate and deliver Migration Scripts and Pipeline Source Code with built-in audit logging capability and automated verification checks.
  • Plan and execute the production migration using a fully documented Runbook and Rollback. Migration plan containing detailed step-by-step instructions and time-to-complete estimates. Complete verification and reconciliation check to guarantee data migration completeness and accuracy.
  • Provide the Maintenance and Migration Interval plans for ongoing migrations (daily, on-demand, or at record update). Detail the necessary processes to support continuous updates of scripts and data schemas over time.

REQUIRED

  • IBM Database Certification.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years experience in Server database maintenance and database administration or similar role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Also, experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Strong SQL proficiency in SQL query development, data modeling, schema optimization, and preliminary data analysis based on business/customer requirements.
  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring, administering and troubleshooting relational databases, including backup and recovery operations.
  • Proven track record in performance tuning, implementing database security protocols, managing access controls, automating routine tasks, and handing SSL certification installation.
  • Experience in leading technical projects, managing deliverables, and providing technical support or training to team members.
  • Proficient in working with complex XML schemas and hierarchical data structures including XPath and XQuery.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing reliable SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) workflows that incorporate robust error handling, logging, data validation, transformations, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with SQL Server XML data types and capabilities, including storing, querying, parsing, transforming, and validating XML using XPath and XQuery.
