The Farmer Mac Information Technology (IT) department is in the process of growing and maturing its operations in order to better support the growth of the company. As part of this process, Farmer Mac IT is looking for a technical, personable, and capable individual for the position of Director, SalesForce Technology.

This position is primarily responsible for technical design, planning, executing, and leading a team of developers and quality assurance engineers to deliver business value through Salesforce technologies. This leader will coordinate with business partners to establish priorities, manage delivery commitments and budget. Secondary responsibilities include coordinating with Enterprise Architect, Enterprise Data Architect and other technology leaders to set technology roadmap, improve data quality, reduce technical debt, and implement artificial intelligence.

Suitable candidates must be able to balance long-term strategic planning with the immediacy of ongoing business needs. Equally important is the ability to work without supervision as well as collaborate as a member of a larger team.

Who Will You Work With

The position will report directly to the Senior Vice President - Chief Information Officer and will partner with members of the Farmer Mac IT Management, Development, IT Infrastructure, Business Analysts, Operations, Cyber Security and Compliance teams. The role will also interact with third-party IT auditors, managed service providers, and consulting companies.

Where and When You Will Work

Farmer Mac embraces a Presence with Purpose work environment, which allows for flexibility of work location while providing the opportunity for teams to come together in the office with purpose. The position will be based in Farmer Mac’s headquarters located at 2100 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC. Core business hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 p.m. Eastern. Work outside of these times may be required for planned and unplanned activities to complete time-sensitive projects or to attend off-site meetings or events. Periodic travel is expected of this position.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Partner with business owners and Subject Matter Experts, to define business objectives, associated use cases, and prioritization. 
  • Establish Salesforce technology roadmap to deliver business value.
  • Leverage established delivery framework to ensure delivery of business capabilities with high quality and dependability. 
  • Lead a team of managers, developers, quality engineers and business analyst to deliver on business commitments.
  • Define project scope and schedule while focusing on regular and timely delivery of value; organize and lead project status and working meetings; prepare and distribute progress reports; manage risks and issues; correct deviations from plans; and perform delivery planning for assigned projects.
  • Assist in team development while holding teams accountable for their commitments, removing roadblocks to their work; leveraging organizational resources to improve capacity for project work; and mentoring and developing team members.
  • Support the Product Owner in managing customer expectations for project deliverables, managing stakeholder communications, and helping to implement an effective system of project governance.
  • Promote empowerment of the team, ensure that each team member is fully engaged in the project and making a meaningful contribution, and encourage a sustainable pace with high levels of quality for the team.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience implementing Salesforce technologies including SalesCloud, and ServiceCloud. Additional experience with Salesforce Agentforce is required.
  • Solid understanding of software development life cycle models as well as expert knowledge of both Agile and traditional project management principles and practices and the ability to blend them together in the right proportions to fit a project and business environment.
  • A proven track record of successfully implementing software or web development projects using Agile methodologies including 10+ years of experience as a Development Manager managing large, complex projects in a high-tech development environment with multi-function teams. 
  • Prior experience with Lean, SCRUM/Agile methodologies with enterprise-level application development projects. PMI-ACP, CSM, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience overseeing multi-function project teams with at least 10-15 team members including developers, business analysts, and QA personnel.
  • Balanced business/technical background:
    • Sufficient level of technical background to provide highly credible leadership to development teams and to be able to accurately and objectively evaluate complex project risks and issues
    • Ability to provide leadership to business analysts and collaborate with customers to develop strategies and solutions of high business value.

Education and Experience

  • BA or BS or equivalent experience is required; MA or MS is a plus
  • 10+ years of experience in software development

Our compensation philosophy is targeted pay positioning relative to peers, our industry, and external markets. Farmer Mac is committed to a compensation program that will enable the organization to attract, motivate, reward, and retain highly skilled and creative talent to maintain sustained long-term performance and achieve the organization’s strategic business objectives. The typical starting salary range for this position is between $180,000-225,000, although wages can vary based on relevant experience and geography.
