The Email Marketing Manager will plan, manage, and execute AARP Foundation’s email marketing channel to maximize engagement with target audiences of program participants, volunteers, and older adults with low income. This role will be responsible for writing and designing compelling email content, as well as for developing and executing nuanced email strategy, send cadence, automated journeys, and list segmentation. Top candidates will have demonstrated ability to create outstanding email content while also leading audience segmentation to analyze and optimize performance, as measured by click-thru rate, engagement rate, and other key performance metrics. This position will be accountable for ensuring the hygiene and accuracy of email lists, and for working in close collaboration with program partners and technical vendors to develop email journeys and automations. 


Responsibilities:
  • Designs and implements communications and outreach strategies tailored for target
    audiences, digital channels, and strategic objectives that inform, educate, and influence both
    internal and external audiences.
  • Manages the organization's digital properties. Supports and manages the overall strategic
    direction of organizational digital platforms. Optimizes online channels against key
    performance indicators and makes data-informed decisions.
  • Oversees content creation for various digital platforms. Leads efforts to identify and document
    strategies for campaigns, working with multiple business units. Provides analyses and recommendations on digital strategies that align with organizational initiatives and goals.
  • Identify appropriate channels. Designs campaigns to meet specific and varied business unit
    objectives. Tracks performance and implements necessary changes.
  • Works with internal and external teams to develop and execute digital marketing strategies
    that increase organizational brand equity and build affinity and engagement among programs.
  • Builds and manages strategic partnerships across the enterprise to enhance business unit
    effectiveness on digital and social channels.
  • Tracks and measure results and KPIs and adjusts tactics, accordingly. Keeps abreast of the
    latest digital trends and best practices to inform digital marketing strategies, as well as to aid
    internal knowledge sharing.
  • Provides exceptional client service by developing timelines to meet project commitments and
    ensuring deliverables from across the organization and external partners are on time.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with internal clients, ensuring a solid understanding of
    their objectives, developing plans to achieve them across channels (e.g., Email, SMS, Paid
    Search, etc.), proactively surfacing new opportunities, and productively resolving any
    challenges.
  • Identifies vendors best suited to advance organizational goals and proactively manage vendor
    relationships to ensure successful completion of projects, obligations, and expectations

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in email marketing, including campaign strategy, email design, audience segmentation, and lifecycle marketing.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise email marketing and automation platforms such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot, Campaign Monitor, or similar tools.
  • Proven ability to create compelling, brand-aligned email content with outstanding copy, excellent subject lines, engaging visuals, and conversion-focused calls to action.
  • Expertise in audience segmentation, lead nurturing, personalized customer journeys, and automated lifecycle campaigns (welcome, retention, and re-engagement).
  • Strong analytical skills with experience tracking KPIs, developing performance reports, and leveraging A/B testing insights to optimize campaign results.
  • Deep understanding of email deliverability, sender reputation, bounce management, and inbox placement best practices, with experience leveraging generative AI tools to enhance email production, testing, and optimization.
  • Proficiency with creative and design tools including Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Canva, or equivalent platforms to develop email assets.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, project management, and cross-functional collaboration and culture building skills.
