Job DetailsJob Location: 9:30 Club - Washington, DC 20001Salary Range: $26.00 - $30.00 HourlyAbout the Role The Crew Chief (Security Supervisor) keeps our venue safe and welcoming for patrons, staff, and artists. You'll lead IMS security personnel on show nights — directing deployment, setting the tone at the doors, and making sure venue policies are carried out consistently, with particular focus on alcohol management. Great crew chiefs pair a calm, quick read of any situation with genuine hospitality: security at a music venue is customer service first, and you set that standard for your team. What You'll Do Direct and coordinate IMS security staff during events: assign positions, communicate show-specific Ensure the IMS personnel effectively information, and deploy people to their strengths so every post is covered and every shift runs smoothly. Ensure all alcohol management policies are properly executed by security staff, including oversight of drinking and non-drinking stamp procedures. Ensure a safe, clean, show-ready venue; conduct regular checks that fire exits remain unobstructed throughout the event and report defects or maintenance issues promptly. Set the customer-service standard for the security team — ensure patrons receive helpful, professional guidance and that staff know where to direct questions they can't answer. Oversee access control throughout the building: ensure restricted areas are protected, visitor passes and permits are properly administered, and unauthorized individuals are politely and professionally escorted out by security staff. Ensure entry screening keeps prohibited items out of the venue in accordance with venue standard operating procedures. Coordinate the security response to requests for assistance from patrons, staff, and management during shows; direct de-escalation and, where necessary, the removal of disruptive individuals from the building or surrounding areas, ensuring a visible security presence. Support emergencies and evacuations calmly and professionally, and provide information to emergency services on request. Oversee the control, issue, and return of venue security equipment — keys, radios, magnetometers, wands — and ensure security work areas are kept clean, safe, and defect-reported. Ensure lost and checked property is securely stored, logged, and returned to its owner where appropriate. Complete incident reports, show sheets, and log books accurately and with sufficient detail. Assist in the onboarding and training of new security team members. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patrons, artists, staff, and venue security information — with particular discretion in public-facing areas such as the stage door. Complete venue closing procedures with the Manager on Duty. Take on other duties as reasonably assigned by management. What You'll Bring Security experience, ideally with an in-house venue or hospitality team. Strong verbal and written communication and excellent interpersonal skills — your team should always know their posts, their priorities, and what to watch for. Calm, steady judgment under pressure: the ability to read a situation quickly, de-escalate, and choose the right response — especially with disruptive behavior. Awareness of current security environments, risks, and threats, and the practical steps that mitigate them. Customer-focused approach with a smart, presentable appearance. Reliability and excellent timekeeping; organized and able to deliver on quick deadlines. Self-motivated, adaptable, and constructive as part of a team.
