Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides medically-tailored meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our team of eighty employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and multiple counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need. Food & Friends is proud to be a nationally-recognized leader of the Food is Medicine movement. 


We seek an Executive Assistant to provide administrative support to the CEO and Board of Directors. The Assistant will:


  • Draft correspondence and upload CEO’s donor correspondence to fundraising software; 
  • Assist with scheduling meetings, both for the CEO and the Board of Directors; 
  • Attend all Board and Committee meetings, take minutes, and distribute minutes for review and approval;
  • Maintain Board membership records;
  • Run errands locally as needed; 
  • Maintain business credit card and perform monthly reconciliation; 
  • Maintain stock of branded promotional items;
  • Oversee scheduling of conference rooms;
  • Assist with donor and VIP recognition events; and
  • Assist with special projects for departments throughout the organization.


Must be available to work some evenings and be willing to work in a traditional office environment. 


The successful candidate will have at least two years of senior administrative experience, including experience reporting to an executive or other comparable individual. Requires proven experience drafting correspondence and taking meeting minutes. Other qualifications include a valid driver’s license; strong knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook; excellent verbal and written communication skills; sense of tact and diplomacy; superb organization and time management skills; keen sense of confidentiality; and the ability to work in a culturally competent manner with diverse populations. Nonprofit experience a plus. Offer of employment contingent upon a background check and pre-employment drug test 


The Executive Assistant pays a salary in the range of $78,000 to $83,000. The generous benefits package includes medical, dental, disability, retirement plan, paid maternity/paternity leave, three weeks of paid leave for new hires, and weekly short Fridays. Food & Friends is Metro accessible.
