Job Summary

This position provides support to the operational unit by facilitating safe approaches associated with installation, repair & maintenance tasks relative to all types of control, measurement, instrumentation and electrical components.

Key Accountabilities

A Field Controls Technician I is expected to quickly learn and be able to perform all the following at a basic level:

  • Implements safe work practices and a proactive safety culture while ensuring safety for the employee, the public, and the environment always.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance and record keeping requirements are met and continually monitored.  The regulations include but are not limited to the Department of Transportation, and Operator Qualification Plans.     
  • Have a basic understanding of the following (or possess the aptitude necessary to learn within the first year of employment) necessary to install, repair & maintain: 
    • Dehy and compressor station controls 
    • Electronic flow meters (orifice and ultra-sonic measurement) and relative equipment. 
    • Pressure, flow and temperature indicating equipment. 
    • Compressor building safety equipment (fire and gas sensing equipment) 
    • Programmable logic computers  
    • Gas chromatograph and moisture analyzing equipment 
    • Remote valve controls and logic 
    • Gas odorizing equipment 
    • Uninterruptible power-supply systems 
    • Satellite and cellular communications and networking 
    • Emergency generator controls 
    • Cathodic protection rectifier operations 
    • Heat trace systems

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent 
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Level II - 3 years experience

Preferred:

  • Experience in natural gas processing, compression and/or pipeline experience preferred, but will train as necessary

Other Qualifications

  • Mechanical aptitude 
  • Obtain all beginning OQ tasks within 6 months 
  • Emergency Response base level understanding 
  • High integrity and self-motivated  
  • Excellent vehicle driving record 
  • Basic computer skills 
  • Good communication, problem solving and physical perceptive skills 
  • Must be able to work and perform without close supervision

 The employee is occasionally required to use sense of smell.  Performs minor maintenance as necessary with medium to heavy lifting requirements.   The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. Must be able to perform on the spot decision making in stressful situations and remain calm and focused during emergency situations.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both in a business office setting and at a plant site. While working at plant site, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions, including cold/hot, wet and/or humid conditions, uneven or steep terrain and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration (see physical requirements above). Works near toxic or caustic chemicals and must be able to read and understand Material Data Safety Sheets.  The noise level in the work environment may be above 90 dB and requires the use of hearing protection in certain areas.
