Drogue is building the world's first offshore floating data centers. We're a small team tackling a massive, first-of-its-kind engineering challenge. If you thrive in ambiguity, love hard problems, and want to build something that's never been built before — keep reading.
We're not putting servers on a barge. We're engineering a new class of ocean-deployed infrastructure that generates its own power, recovers its own waste heat, stays on station in severe weather, and runs autonomously. This requires a mix of first principles engineering and existing technology from other industries.
You'll be our Founding Ocean Engineer — the person responsible for making sure our platforms float, survive, and perform in the open ocean. You'll own the hull and structure from concept through physical validation, drive the CAD environment, and be the primary point of contact with classification societies and third-party validators.
Responsibilities:
Own platform CAD and detailed design from concept through fabrication-ready deliverables
Lead seaworthiness analysis: stability, structural loads, motion response, and survivability in extreme sea states
Drive all third-party validation efforts — classification societies, independent engineering reviews, and regulatory approvals
Plan and execute physical testing programs: tank testing, load testing, and at-sea validation of prototype platforms
Qualifications:
B.S./M.S. in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or Marine Engineering
Demonstrated experience taking a vessel or offshore platform from design through build and deployment
Track record working directly with classification societies and regulatory bodies
This role is based in Washington, D.C. and will include some time at sea. We offer generous relocation assistance for candidates across the US.
