Position Summary

Fusion is seeking an experienced General Engineer to support the design, construction, modernization, and sustainment of secure federal facilities within the National Capital Region. This role provides technical oversight, engineering support, construction coordination, and infrastructure expertise across mission-critical and classified facility projects.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong engineering background in one or more disciplines including mechanical, electrical, civil, or facilities engineering, with experience supporting federal, DoD, or other critical infrastructure environments.


Clearance Requirement

Active Secret security clearance required; Top Secret clearance preferred. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain any additional customer-required clearances or access authorizations.

 

Key Responsibilities:


Design & Technical Review

  • Provide multidisciplinary engineering support for secure facility construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, design packages, calculations, and other technical documentation for constructability, coordination, and compliance
  • Perform technical evaluations across mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, HVAC, controls, utilities, and site systems
  • Identify design conflicts and technical issues, evaluate potential impacts, and coordinate practical solutions with appropriate engineering disciplines and project stakeholders
  • Review proposed design changes and construction modifications for technical impact and alignment with project requirements

 

Field & Site Work

 

  • Provide field engineering and construction-phase support, including site walks, inspections, condition assessments, and construction observation
  • Verify installed systems and equipment against approved drawings, specifications, submittals, and design intent
  • Evaluate and document field conditions, deficiencies, and construction-related issues and support their technical resolution
  • Support construction, renovations, commissioning, testing, and turnover activities within operational mission-critical facilities

 

Security, Codes, and Compliance

 

  • Apply applicable UFC criteria, DoD and federal standards, building codes, industry standards, and project-specific engineering requirements
  • Support compliance with technical, construction, safety, and secure-facility requirements throughout project execution
  • Handle sensitive and controlled project information in accordance with applicable security requirements

 

Project and Coordination Support

 

  • Coordinate with project managers, discipline engineers, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and government stakeholders
  • Participate in design reviews, construction meetings, technical discussions, and multidisciplinary coordination
  • Support resolution of engineering and construction issues while considering impacts to project schedule, cost, quality, and facility operations
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and support tracking of technical issues, design changes, and project deliverables

 

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Fully onsite position supporting secure government facilities and active construction environments requiring strict access controls and security protocols
  • Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including active construction sites and around mechanical systems, high-voltage switchgear, substations, utilities, and other critical infrastructure
  • Requires lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, safely navigating uneven terrain, and working in confined spaces
  • Ability to wear required PPE and safely work in operational and active construction environments
  • Night and/or evening work may be required based on project schedules, operational requirements, or site demands

 

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience supporting facilities, infrastructure, or construction, in mission-critical environments
  • Experience supporting federal or DoD constructions projects
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred

 

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of federal construction standards, building systems, and engineering practices
  • Experience in one or more engineering areas, including mechanical systems, electrical systems, civil/site infrastructure, structural systems, utilities, HVAC, controls, or building automation
  • Ability to review technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation
  • Familiarity with construction administration, commissioning, field coordination, testing, and facility turnover activities
  • Experience and proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, load calculation software, or related engineering/design platforms
  • Familiarity with secure facility requirements, SCIF/SAPF environments, ICD/ICS compliance, or related standards preferred
