TITLE:                        High School Leadership Program Intern

REPORTS TO:           Senior Manager, High School Leadership Program

LOCATION:                Hybrid – Remote and in-person in Washington, DC

DURATION:               June – August 2026

 

POSITION SUMMARY


The High School Leadership Program Intern will have the opportunity to affect major programmatic areas of the organization, including working in close partnership with CHCI staff responsible for the NextGen Latino Leadership Program. The NextGen Program is an all-expenses-paid, week-long leadership experience designed for high school students from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.


The High School Leadership Program Intern will play a vital role in the planning, organization, and execution of the NextGen summer program, along with any additional events and initiatives. In addition, CHCI’s interns are exposed to networking, shadowing, and mentoring opportunities with Latino leaders, and receive ongoing professional development training from staff.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Assist with the onboarding process of selected participants. This includes the collection and organization of required documents.
  • Work with NextGen team and Communications team to develop a social media plan to highlight participants and various activities taking place throughout the program.
  • Work closely with the High School Leadership Program Senior Manager in the planning of logistics and execution of leadership development workshops taking place.
  • Participate fully in student events and activities during the program weeks (held June 7-13 and June 21-27).
  • Work on the creation and transcription of pre-program evaluations and questionnaires.
  • Work with Senior Manager to prepare post-program reporting for sponsors, partners, and board members.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the Programs team.

 

This internship involves a range of tasks; some are administrative. The intern’s supervisor will work to make tasks and projects during the internship align, as much as possible, with the intern’s expressed interests. CHCI’s internship opportunities provide well rounded hands-on experience and valuable professional skills.


QUALIFICATIONS


Required:


  • Ability to work collaboratively and courteously with coworkers, alumni, and external constituents
  • Strong logistical, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Demonstrated passion for leadership development and advancing communities of color
  • Dependable, motivated, innovative, and able to function in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • High professional and ethical standards when handling confidential information
  • Flexible, has strong initiative, and is able to work independently
  • Thrives in a team environment to achieve institutional goals
  • Extensive experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Canva
  • Commitment to CHCI’s mission and values

 

Preferred:

  • Background in P-20 education
  • Spanish language skills
  • Undergraduate student
  • Some database management background desirable
