HR Assistant

Location: Washington, DC (On-Site Position)

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This role offers the opportunity to join a team of dedicated professionals providing hands-on HR support to a federal client. The HR Assistant will work closely with HR specialists and other team members to support personnel processing, records management, and day-to-day HR operations.

Job Description

The HR Assistant will provide administrative and human resources support for a federal client. Responsibilities include personnel processing, records management, HR systems support, and general HR operations in accordance with applicable federal regulations, OPM guidance, and established policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following are key duties for this position, with additional tasks assigned as needed:

  • Provide administrative and HR support to HR specialists, analysts, management, and other staff.
  • Code, process, and assist with personnel actions and transaction updates in accordance with OPM’s Guide to Processing Personnel Actions and established procedures.
  • Utilize EmpowHR, National Finance Center (NFC), and other government systems to process transactions, download reports, perform data entry, and support HR activities.
  • Review, validate, and maintain Official Personnel Folders (OPFs), Service Computation Dates (SCDs), HR case files, and other personnel records and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain electronic and hard-copy records, including scanning and uploading documentation, managing files and databases, and extracting information for reporting purposes.
  • Research and apply federal HR policies, procedures, precedents, and other guidance in support of HR processing activities.
  • Manage physical and electronic HR correspondence and mailboxes, ensuring information and documentation are appropriately routed and maintained.
  • Draft correspondence and administrative documents, maintain calendars, coordinate meetings, and assist with other administrative requirements.
  • Provide support for HR programs and projects, including staffing, hiring, benefits, compensation, and other personnel-related activities.
  • Perform other related HR and administrative duties and special projects as assigned.

Education and Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience providing HR support services similar to the duties outlined above.
  • Working knowledge of EmpowHR and National Finance Center (NFC) systems.
  • Experience coding and processing federal personnel actions in accordance with OPM guidance.
  • Experience reviewing and maintaining OPFs, validating SCDs, and performing related calculations.
  • Knowledge of federal HR policies, procedures, personnel processing, and records management.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work, maintain accurate records, and independently complete HR and administrative assignments.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required suitability or fitness determination.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience supporting federal HR operations.
  • Experience with federal employee benefits and retirement programs.
  • Experience supporting staffing, hiring, compensation, benefits, or other federal HR programs.
