Job Overview

The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, servicing, and repair of environment-control systems in various settings, including residences, department stores, office buildings, and commercial establishments. Leveraging expertise in refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout, the technician executes tasks with precision and adherence to engineering specifications.

 

Pay Rate: $52.25hr


Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

  • Mounting compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors according to blueprints or engineering guidelines, using hand tools.
  • Fabricating, assembling, and installing ductwork and chassis parts using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
  • Installing evaporator units in chassis or air duct systems, ensuring proper functionality with hand tools.
  • Cutting and bending tubing to correct length and shape, employing cutting and bending equipment.
  • Joining tubing or pipes to refrigerating units with sleeves, couplings, or unions, soldering joints to form a complete refrigerant circuit.
  • Installing expansion and discharge valves in circuits, ensuring seamless operation.
  • Connecting motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and power sources.
  • Installing air and water filters in completed installations to enhance system efficiency.
  • Conducting system tests by injecting refrigerant into compressors, adjusting controls, and observing pressure and vacuum gauges to ensure optimal operation.
  • Inspecting joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges or soap-and-water solutions.
  • Insulating pipes with batting and securing them in place with cement or wire bands.
  • Performing repairs on installed units by replacing defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring, utilizing electrician's hand tools and test equipment.
  • Optionally, installing, repairing, and servicing air conditioners with cooling capacities ranging from 15 to 20 tons in warehouses and small factory buildings.

Accountable For:

  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.
  • HVAC Journeyman license.
  • Universal CFC License.
  • Familiarity with basic mathematical functions as required.
  • Able to pass pre-hire background and drug screen.
  • S. Citizenship.
  • Possess the required intelligence community level clearance.
  • Valid Drivers’ license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75 pounds.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Travel up to 20%

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds individually and team lift up to 75 pounds.
