Kearney is seeking an IT Risk Senior Consultant to join our growing consulting practice and play a key role in expanding our federal IT risk and advisory business. This position is responsible for leading client engagements, developing trusted executive relationships, growing existing accounts, and identifying new opportunities to apply IT risk, governance, internal controls, cybersecurity, and financial systems expertise to complex federal challenges. The Senior Consultant will serve as a senior advisor to federal clients and provide strategic direction across IT risk and control initiatives, including IT governance, financial systems modernization, cybersecurity governance, regulatory compliance, internal controls, and remediation. The role will lead multidisciplinary teams, oversee the quality and successful delivery of engagements, and work closely with firm leadership to develop new business, shape solutions, and expand client relationships. This position is intended for an experienced consulting leader who combines deep technical, federal experience, client relationship, and team leadership capabilities.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Client Leadership & Engagement Delivery.
  • Serve as a senior advisor to federal executives, CIO organizations, CFO organizations, business leaders, system owners, and other senior stakeholders on IT risk, governance, controls, and technology transformation.
  • Lead complex consulting engagements from opportunity development through delivery, ensuring high-quality work, strong client relationships, and successful outcomes.
  • Provide strategic direction for IT governance, risk management, internal controls, cybersecurity governance, financial systems, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Oversee IT control assessments, including IT General Controls (ITGCs), Business Process Application Controls (BPACs), internal IT audits, OMB A-123 evaluations, and related compliance assessments.
  • Assess complex technology and business risks and develop practical, sustainable recommendations that improve security, compliance, operational effectiveness, and organizational resilience.
  • Advise clients on designing, implementing, and maturing governance and control environments across enterprise applications, ERP systems, cloud platforms, and business systems.
  • Lead remediation and transformation initiatives, including development of actionable remediation strategies, Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), and sustainable long-term control improvements.
  • Support financial system modernization, ERP implementations, cloud migrations, and digital transformation initiatives by integrating governance, risk, and control considerations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead executive briefings, workshops, risk assessments, walkthroughs, and other client forums and communicate complex technical and compliance issues in a clear, business-focused manner.
  • Ensure deliverables, methodologies, and client recommendations meet the firm's quality standards and effectively address client objectives.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior federal clients and serve as a strategic partner in identifying and addressing emerging client needs.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities within existing accounts and across new federal agencies.
  • Lead or support capture, proposal, and business development activities, including opportunity shaping, client engagement, solution development, teaming, pricing strategy, and proposal development.
  • Develop differentiated solutions and offerings that leverage the firm's IT risk, financial systems, cybersecurity, governance, and compliance capabilities.
  • Expand existing client relationships by identifying follow-on opportunities and translating client challenges into additional consulting solutions.
  • Represent the firm in client meetings, industry events, professional organizations, and other forums that support market visibility and business growth.
  • Partner with firm leadership to establish and execute account growth strategies and contribute to annual revenue and pipeline objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of federal market trends, agency priorities, emerging regulations, and technology challenges to identify opportunities for the practice. Team & Practice Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop consultants, seniors, and managers through coaching, technical guidance, quality reviews, and career development.
  • Build high-performing engagement teams and effectively manage staffing, utilization, performance, and professional development.
  • Establish and maintain delivery standards, methodologies, templates, and accelerators that improve engagement quality and efficiency.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and maturity of the firm's IT Risk and Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) service offerings.
  • Develop thought leadership, training, and internal capabilities that strengthen the firm's market position and technical expertise.
  • Serve as a role model for the firm's culture, client service expectations, and commitment to professional development.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information systems, Computer Science, Accounting, Business, Cybersecurity, or a related field.

• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in IT risk consulting, technology advisory, internal IT audit, IT compliance, financial systems, cybersecurity governance, or related consulting services.

• Demonstrated experience leading complex engagements and multidisciplinary teams in a client-facing environment.

• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with senior client executives and decision-makers.

• Proven experience advising organizations on IT governance, technology risk management, internal controls, compliance, and control maturity.

• Experience leading IT control assessments, internal audits, or compliance evaluations involving enterprise applications, ERP systems, cloud technologies, or financial systems.

• Strong understanding of IT General Controls (ITGCs), application controls, technology risk management, and applicable control frameworks.

• Strong understanding of FISCAM and FISMA (Federal Information Systems Control Audit Manual).

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical and risk concepts to executive audiences.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engagements, priorities, and teams in a fast-paced consulting environment.

• Professional certifications such as CISA, CISSP, CPA, or equivalent.

• Ability to work onsite at client locations throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

• Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship) 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated track record of growing federal client accounts or contributing to meaningful consulting revenue growth.

• Experience supporting OMB A-123 IT evaluations within federal agencies.

• Experience supporting federal financial management, financial systems modernization, or ERP transformation initiatives.

• Experience with Oracle, Oracle Cloud ERP, or Oracle Federal Financials business applications.

• Experience supporting cloud governance and security within AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or Google Cloud Platform.

• Experience implementing or administering Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) platforms such as ServiceNow GRC, Diligent HighBond, Archer, or AuditBoard.

• Experience supporting FISMA, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST SP 800-53, FedRAMP, or related federal compliance initiatives.

• Established relationships within federal agencies or the broader federal IT, financial management, cybersecurity, or consulting community.

• Experience developing thought leadership, leading industry presentations, or representing a consulting organization at professional events.

 The expected salary range for this position is between $103,000 and $180,000.  This range is representative of base pay only and does not include straight time pay for hours worked over 40 per week, company contributions towards paid benefits, and/or bonuses.  Actual compensation (meeting or exceeding the range) will be determined based on specific experience, education, work location, clearance level, and other factors permitted by law.  This position is eligible for bonuses (when applicable).
