Electromagnetic and Cyber Group (EM&C) is responsible for developing flexible and survivable advanced electronic warfare and secure communications equipment while providing the industry’s leading signals intelligence, electronic warfare, and cyber experts.  Metrea specializes in signal classification, direction finding, advanced geolocation techniques, and waveform development including waveforms for MANET and LPI/LPD applications. Metrea also develops special purpose radios for government customers and licenses DF and geolocation solutions to multiple OEMs.   

 

Position Summary  

The Mission IT Systems Administrator is responsible for building, maintaining, securing, and supporting a mixed operating system environment designed for sensitive operational, engineering, and mission support activities. This role requires strong hands-on experience across macOS, Linux, virtualization, mobile device administration, secure communications platforms, VPNs, tunneling methods, endpoint management, and non-standard mission support environments.

While this position is more technically complex than a traditional enterprise help-desk role, it will serve as the primary technical support function for users operating these systems. The ideal candidate is a practical systems administrator who can support Apple hardware and macOS endpoints, Linux-based services and databases, virtualized Windows environments, mobile devices, secure communications tools, and segmented or controlled network architectures.

The role bridges IT operations, application design and management, software installation and maintenance to enable the safe execution of high consequence technical work while maintaining full compliance with export control, access management, and security directives.   

What You’ll Do

  • Administer and support a mixed operating system environment that includes macOS endpoints, Linux systems, Android and other mobile devices, and virtualized Windows environments.
  • Serve as the primary help desk and technical support lead for users, including onboarding, device provisioning, account management, troubleshooting, issue resolution, and user training.
  • Build,maintain, and improve standardized endpoint configurations, system baselines, patching processes, and device lifecycle management workflows.
  • Support Linux-based systems, services, databases, storage platforms, and application infrastructure, including command-line administration, scripting, security hardening, and troubleshooting.
  • Deploy, configure, andmaintaincustom applications, internal tools, scripts, utilities, and mission-support software across macOS, Linux, mobile, and virtualized environments.
  • Administer virtualization platforms and virtual machines, including provisioning, configuration management, virtual networking, access controls, and user support.
  • Configure, secure, and support VPNs, tunneling technologies, encrypted transport methods, and secure remote access solutions.
  • Deploy andmaintainsecure messaging, collaboration, and communications platforms using a mixture of commercial and open-source technologies.
  • Work closely with the Network Engineer to coordinate endpoint administration, routing, segmentation,firewallpolicies, VPN configurations, IDS/IPS requirements, and secure access controls.
  • Support segmented, isolated, and controlled network environments used for engineering, testing, operational support, secure communications, and mission-focused activities.
  • Support endpoint security, IDS/IPS, logging, monitoring, vulnerability remediation, backup, recovery, and secure configuration management across physical and virtual infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues spanning operating systems, databases, applications, mobile devices, virtualization platforms, communications tools, VPNs, tunnels, and network connectivity.
  • Develop andmaintaintechnical documentation, standard operating procedures, build guides, troubleshooting guides, and user support workflows.
  • Support the secure handling, configuration control, and operational readiness of devices, applications, communications systems, and infrastructure used in sensitive defense, government, or mission-support environments.
  • Document system configurations, maintenance schedules, and network diagrams.  
  • Provide Tier 3 technical support and mentorship to IT support personnel.    
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for audits, security inspections, and system accreditation activities.  

What You’ll bring 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, ora relateddiscipline.Relevant military, government, or industry experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience administering mixed macOS, Windows, and Linux environments in secure, mission-critical, defense, engineering, or operational settings.
  • Experiencemaintainingsystems under NIST 800-171, DFARS 252.204-7012, or equivalent compliance frameworks.
  • Strong hands-on experience administering endpoint, server, mobile, and virtualized systems across mixed operating system environments.
  • Experience serving as a primary or senior technical supportpoint of contactfor usersoperatingspecialized, secure, or non-standard systems.
  • Demonstrated experience creating andmaintainingstandardized system baselines, endpoint build standards, provisioning workflows, patching processes, or controlled configuration procedures.
  • Experience with MDM or endpoint management platforms for macOS and/or mobile devices, such asJamf, Kandji,Mosyle, Apple Business Manager,SimpleMDM, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong Linux administration skills, including command-line troubleshooting, package management, system services, databases, storage, networking, SSH, permissions, logging, scripting, security hardening, and system recovery.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms, virtual networking, VM lifecycle management, and administration of Linux and Windows virtual machines.
  • Experience configuring and supporting mobile devices, secure communications tools, encrypted collaboration platforms, VPNs, tunneling methods, device identity, key management, account provisioning, and user onboarding.
  • Experience working with network engineers or security teams to coordinate endpoint configuration, VPN access, tunneling methods, routing, segmentation,firewallrules, IDS/IPS placement, secure remote access, and system administration procedures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot across multiple operating systems, networks, applications, device types, and virtualization layers without relying on a single-vendor enterprise stack.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with eligibility for government clearance.

 

Additional Eligibility Qualifications  

  • Previous military, defense, or government service, ideally within JSOC,USSOCOM, orinteragencyinvolving secure communications or mission network operations.  
  • Experience with special communications, non-standard communications networks, tactical communications, mission networks, or operational communications TTPs.
  • Familiarity with zero-trust architecture, cross-domain solutions (CDS), and network segmentation design.  
  • Experience supporting secure, compartmented, classified, controlled, or operationally sensitive technical environments.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, Linux+, CCNA, CCNP, RHCSA,Jamf, Apple device management, CISSP, or equivalent certifications in security, networking, Linux administration, virtualization, or endpoint management.
  • Experience developing incident response playbooks and conducting internal security audits.  
  • Hands on experience with SIEM, IDS/IPS, and endpoint detection tools.  
  • Active Top Secret / SCI clearance strongly preferred

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work  

This is a full-time non-exempt position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.
