Laboratory Manager and EHS Officer
Annual Salary Range: 65k to 72k (Salary determination is based on experience & qualifications).
Trinity Washington University seeks a Laboratory Manager and EHS Officer to support its science laboratories. Trinity, a comprehensive university that offers undergraduate programming in the sciences, seeks an individual for this full-time position available as early as September 1, 2026.
Schedule:
- 40 hours per week, including regular office hours to support the business hours of the University.
- This is a year-round, 12-month position.
Special Licenses, Registration or Certification:
- Safety License is a plus.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field
- Appropriate laboratory experience.
Position Overview:
Supporting Science faculty and supervising student workers, the Laboratory Manager will be responsible for preparing materials for teaching lab exercises, and for maintaining clean and safe labs with working equipment in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Forensic Science, Environmental Science, and Physics. Duties include working collaboratively with faculty to understand their course needs, training and supervising student workers, keeping inventories and planning ahead to maintain appropriate stock, purchasing, and managing financial records.
Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Laboratory Manager will be the first responder for issues related to equipment/instrumentation inventory, care and maintenance. The Laboratory Manager will at times be called to share their expertise through an instructional role that supports laboratory experiences for students and/or through teaching opportunities. As EHS Officer, the individual will be responsible for adherence to biohazard/chemical safety precautions, chemical waste management, inventory and disposal of biohazard materials and chemicals, database for chemical safety data sheets, safety training for faculty, students, adjuncts, safety checks and safety records, and keeping current on regulations and requirements.

- Supervising student workers.
- Working collaboratively with faculty to understand their needs.
- Keeping inventory and ordering supplies as needed.
- Maintaining financial records.
- Handling chemical waste managements and disposal of waste.
- Keeping a database for chemical safety data sheets.
- Training students, faculty, adjuncts, and staff in proper use of materials.
- Managing safety checks and safety records.
- Keeping current on regulations and requirements related to the management of chemicals and safety issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
