As part of this work, NMMA runs the industry’s consumer-facing Discover Boating initiative (DiscoverBoating.com), which has an annual campaign budget between $5-7M and attracts 4-5 million potential boat buyers to DiscoverBoating.com. Additionally, Discover Boating consumer boat shows attract 500K attendees to its 14 events each year, with an annual marketing and communications budget between $3-4M. Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Policy and Political Engagement Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and creative thinker with a background in policy analysis, research, and political contributions. In this role, you will assist NMMA’s government relations team in influencing policy decisions through conducting research to inform our advocacy work, developing policy and political fundraising content and materials, and assisting with the management of the organization’s political contributions to support candidates who champion NMMA’s policy agenda. This position will require a proactive attitude and an eagerness to learn. This is an exciting opportunity for a junior level professional to develop new skillsets and take their career to the next level. Key Responsibilities: Policy Analysis and Advocacy: Conduct thorough policy analysis and research on relevant issues. Stay informed about legislative and regulatory developments that impact the recreational boating industry. Assist with the development and implementation of effective advocacy strategies to promote our policy objectives. Collaborate with our team to draft and review policy memos, issue briefs, talking points, newsletter articles, grassroots action alerts, and other advocacy related materials. Research and Data Analysis: Lead research efforts to gather data, statistics, and relevant information related to policy issues impacting the recreational boating industry including tax and trade, workforce development, infrastructure and public access, and environmental and conservation. Analyze and synthesize research findings to produce compelling advocacy and political engagement materials. Provide data-driven insights to guide our advocacy campaigns and strategies. Political Contributions Management: Develop and execute a comprehensive political contributions strategy. Identify and evaluate political candidates who align with our organization's mission and values. Establish and maintain relationships with fundraisers and campaign staff. Assist with developing and implementing political fundraising efforts. Ensure compliance with all campaign finance regulations and reporting requirements. QualificationsQualifications: Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, or related field. Minimum of 2 years of experience in policy analysis, research, fundraising or related fields. Strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory processes and a demonstrated passion for advocacy. Experience managing political contributions and campaign finance compliance. Excellent research, analytical, and data interpretation skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management capabilities. Familiarity with advocacy software, data analysis tools, and campaign finance regulations. Knowledge of the recreational boating industry a plus.
