Description
This is not just another attorney role. This is a leverage role.Â
If you’re a solid patent attorney but tired of:Â
- Producing work with no influence Â
- Working in broken systems you can’t fix Â
- Managing chaos without authority Â
This is your opportunity to step into a role where you build, lead, and scale.Â
What This Role Actually DoesÂ
You will operate as both a high-level contributor and internal leader.Â
- Draft and prosecute complex patent matters Â
- Handle client communication and relationship support Â
- Oversee legal assistants (workflow, deadlines, quality)Â Â
- Build and improve internal legal workflows Â
- Act as the right hand to the CEO on legal operations Â
This role is about production + leverage.Â
What You’ll Be Measured OnÂ
- Billables, realization rate, and budget targets
- Quality (minimal CEO revisions, zero errors) Â
- Team leverage (how effectively assistants are utilized)Â Â
- Workflow improvement (things get smoother, not messier)Â Â
- Reduction of CEO involvement in day-to-day legal ops Â
What Success Looks LikeÂ
By 30 days:
You’re producing work and understanding systems + teamÂ
By 60 days:
You’re managing assistants, running check-ins, fixing friction pointsÂ
By 90 days:
You are owning legal workflows, acting as QA layer before CEO, reducing CEO time spent on filings + oversight Â
This Role Is NOT For You If:Â
- You only want to produce work and not lead Â
- You’ve never successfully managed support staff Â
- You wait for permission instead of solving problems Â
- You resist ambiguity or evolving systems Â
- You lack the interpersonal skills to lead respectfully Â
Requirements
Required BackgroundÂ
- Chemistry / life sciences background (required)Â Â
- JD + Patent Bar +
- Prior patent prosecution experience (multi-year)Â Â
- Demonstrated experience managing legal assistants or similar staff Â
- Experience improving or owning workflows (not just participating in them)Â Â
The Kind of Person Who Thrives HereÂ
- Operator mindset—you fix things, not just flag them Â
- Strong communicator (clear, direct, respectful)Â Â
- Highly organized and systems-oriented Â
- Humble but confident—no ego, no passivity Â
- Comfortable in a growing, non-corporate firm Â
