The Paralegal will support attorneys in organizing and processing legal matters and supports legal compliance in accordance with guidelines set forth by attorneys. Maintains legal files and databases, schedules meetings, and coordinates correspondence. Assists attorneys in reviewing relevant documents and identifying legal issues. Gathers initial information about legal matters. Communicates with clients, co-counsel, and opposing counsel to collect and assemble information.Â
Responsibilities
- Organizes and manages legal or regulatory matters and/or cases, including preparing binders, exhibits, documents, contracts, articles, reports, or summaries in response to various requests.
- Assists in various phases of legal matters/cases as applicable, including factfinding, due diligence, investigation and/or discovery, including written discovery, depositions, editing, negotiations, witness interviews, and/or attending trials or closings.
- Manages legal and compliance digital platforms to collect, store, and produce electronically stored information for legal or regulatory matters.
- Organizes and maintains files related to litigation and/other legal/case matters and/or case files using law practice management software.
- Prepares, edits, cite checks, and formats correspondence, memoranda, pleadings, briefs, publications, and other legal documents under attorney guidance.
- Supports attorneys by scheduling appointments, depositions, and meetings.
- Maintains attorneys’ files and calendars and makes logistic arrangements.
- Prepares and submits expense reports and other financial documents for payment.
Qualifications
- HS Diploma or GED required.
- 5+ years of litigation experience working in a law firm or legal department.
- Must be able to handle multiple, high-level, complex projects at one time and high volumes of work on an ongoing basis, with strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge and understanding of legal principles and practices, experienced in all areas of paralegal duties from the inception of a case to trial and appeal, including but not limited to case management, general research utilizing legal databases (e.g., Westlaw), case retrieval, Bluebooking, cite-checking and proof-reading pleadings.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, the Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) system, and litigation support applications (e.g., Relativity, Concordance, Ipro).
- Ability to apply understanding and knowledge of the litigation process from pre-trial to post-trial.
- Superior oral, written, and interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication across a diverse group of internal and external clients, attorneys, and staff, while maintaining a high level of work quality and customer service. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion.
Preferred:
- Paralegal certification.
