Today, DC Scholars Public Charter School serves approximately 500 students in Preschool - 8th grade. The PATH to High School Specials Teacher plays a critical role in preparing middle school scholars for success in high school, college, career, and life by teaching engaging, skills-based elective courses that cultivate students’ passions while reinforcing the school’s PATH Values—Prepared, Attentive, Thoughtful, and Hardworking. The PATH to High School Specials Teacher is a vital member of this mission, helping scholars discover who they are, where they are going, and how to get there. Our educators believe that every scholar deserves access to rigorous instruction, meaningful relationships, and opportunities that prepare them for success beyond middle school. This educator creates rigorous, culturally responsive learning experiences that help scholars develop essential life skills, executive functioning, leadership, collaboration, communication, and career awareness. Through high expectations, joyful instruction, and meaningful relationships, the PATH to High School Specials Teacher equips students with the habits and competencies necessary to thrive beyond DC Scholars. Key Responsibilities Student Learning Designs and facilitates engaging elective courses that prepare students for success in high school and beyond Implements curriculum aligned to college and career readiness competencies Incorporates project-based learning and authentic performance tasks Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners Integrates literacy, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving into daily instruction Uses formative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction Maintains high academic expectations while creating an engaging classroom culture Possible Course Offerings The PATH to High School program may include courses such as: Leadership Development Executive Functioning & Study Skills Financial Literacy College & Career Exploration Public Speaking & Debate Digital Literacy Career Pathways Entrepreneurship Community Service & Civic Engagement High School Readiness Seminar High School Readiness Prepares students to successfully transition into competitive high schools by teaching: Organization systems Time management Goal setting Self-advocacy Professional communication Note-taking strategies Study habits Growth mindset Digital organization Interview skills Resume development Professional etiquette Student Culture Builds a classroom environment grounded in DC Scholars’ PATH Values Teaches, reinforces, and celebrates positive student behaviors Fosters student voice and leadership Supports restorative practices and relationship building Maintains consistent routines and procedures Creates an inclusive environment where every scholar feels known, challenged, and supported Family Partnership Communicates regularly with families regarding student growth and progress Shares celebrations and areas for continued development Partners with caregivers to support students’ transition to high school Collaboration Participates actively in Professional Development Attends weekly team meetings Collaborates with grade-level teachers to reinforce executive functioning skills across content areas Supports schoolwide initiatives and events Participates in data meetings and instructional planning sessions Data & Accountability Monitors student growth toward course outcomes Maintains accurate grades and student records Analyzes student data to improve instruction Participates in observation and coaching cycles Implements feedback from instructional leaders PATH Values Employees at DC Scholars are expected to model the school’s core values: Prepared — Arrives ready to teach, learn, and contribute at the highest level. Starting salaries for new hires will be determined based on a combination of the new hire's relevant experience and market demands.
