Position Overview
The Private Label Merchant is responsible for merchandising the private label women's accessories lines at Tuckernuck to drive sales and gross profit. This role includes developing assortment strategies, setting target retail prices and cost parameters, and analyzing product performance to inform future decisions.
The Private Label Merchant partners closely with Fiona, Ellen, the Fashion Director, and the Design team to develop the Accessories product verticals. They also collaborate with the internal private label production team to ensure purchase orders are placed accurately and on time. In addition, this role participates in sample fitting, development, and approval processes to ensure product design intent and financial goals are met.
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute seasonal assortment strategies for the private label Accessories and Jewelry categories
- Partner cross-functionally with Design, Production, Marketing, Merchandising, and Logistics to bring product from concept to customer
- Manage sales, margin, and inventory performance for owned product categories
- Analyze product performance and leverage insights to inform buying and development decisions
- Ensure timely and accurate purchase order placement and delivery execution
- Communicate product launches, assortment plans, and delivery timing to internal teams
- Manage and mentor a Buying Coordinator, reviewing work for accuracy and development
Manage Private Label Product Development Process:
- Provide historical selling data, customer insights, and competitive analysis to inform design and development decisions
- Analyze current and previous seasons’ performance, comp styles, and price points to determine buy depth and assortment strategy
- Prepare weekly historical recaps with recommended action items for the Private Label team
- Identify new style opportunities that resonate with the Tuckernuck customer and brand mission
- Identify assortment gaps and opportunities within the category and collaborate with other buyers to avoid duplication across third-party and private label assortments
- Track buys as they are written to ensure alignment with monthly, seasonal, and category financial plans
Manage Buy to Warehouse Process:
- Write and manage purchase orders, ensuring timely submission and accuracy
- Update buys in internal systems and adjust as necessary to maintain open-to-buy targets
- Monitor shipments and communicate delivery updates with vendors and the Production team
- Manage in-season inventory through reorders, cancellations, and delivery shifts to maintain healthy stock-to-sales ratios
- Analyze in-season product performance and recommend actions to drive sell-through and margin
- Partner with Creative, PR, Styling, and Merchandising teams to support product launches and maximize performance
Minimum Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

CompensationÂ
Compensation for the role will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience. The estimated annual compensation for this role is $75,000-$85,000; classified as full-time exempt and not eligible for overtime.
