The Position
The National Women’s Law Center seeks a Program Assistant to provide administrative and program support for the Child Care & Income Security team. The Program Assistant is an integral member of the Child Care and Income Security team and supports the team’s programmatic work, which addresses a wide range of issues including child care and other care-related policies; tax and budget policy; income supports such as nutrition assistance and other basic needs programs; and Social Security and retirement.
This is a full-time non-exempt position of 37.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities
- Supporting the Vice President and other staff with scheduling;
- Helping to schedule, plan, and facilitate internal meetings;
- Assisting with conference, event, and convening organization, preparation, and execution, including, but not limited to space reservations, ordering and coordinating catering, and taking notes in meetings;
- Assisting with the preparation, formatting, proofreading, and distribution of correspondence and other materials; Arranging travel, preparing expense reports and invoices, and facilitating contracts;
- Assisting with coordination and information sharing among the Child Care & Income Security team, other NWLC teams, and the Office of the President;
- Posting and formatting content on the NWLC website using WordPress;
- Assisting team members with information gathering, background research, fact-checking, and preparation of materials related to child care and income security policy initiatives;
- Assisting with logistical aspects of legislative communications and outreach;
- As needed: providing other administrative, program support, and organization-wide support; and
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A candidate must possess:
- Strong written and oral communications skills;
- Attention to detail and proofreading skills
- Initiative in seeking clarification on assignments;
- A demonstrated ability toprioritize workloads, stay organized, follow established processes, and approporiately escalate issues when needed;
- Flexibility, good judgment and the ability to handle multiple, concurrent tasks in an effective manner;
- Strong computer skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including experience scheduling meetings in Outlook and managing spreadsheets in Excel;
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team setting and to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; and
- A commitment to and interest in the work of the Center, including child care, income supports, and advocacy.
Additional preferred skills and knowledge:
- Experience in an administrative capacity for a senior executive, preferably at a non-profit organization or related field;
- A college degree or at least two years’ college;
- Experience with InDesign and WordPress; and
- Demonstrated experience and judgement working both collaboratively and independently.
Key Relationships
The Program Assistant reports directly to the Vice President for Child Care & Income Security and works with members of the Child Care & Income Security team and colleagues across the National Women’s Law Center.
Compensation & Benefits
A salary within the range of $65,899-79,348 will be provided to the successful candidate, consistent with the National Women’s Law Center’s compensation framework. The successful candidate’s salary within this range will be determined by the number years of relevant experience they bring to the role.
The Center offers a comprehensive benefits package, and four weeks of annual vacation.
NWLC is a non-profit organization whose headquarters and staff are based in Washington, D.C. at our new office at 1350 Eye Street N.W. This role is based in D.C. and will be eligible for some telework while also being expected to work in person on a regular basis. The successful candidate will need to live in or relocate to the DMV (broadly defined as DC, Maryland, or Virginia).
The first 90 days of employment will be considered a probationary period.
Classification
NWLC recognizes a staff bargaining unit, NWLC United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in NWLC’s bargaining unit. Specific employment terms are subject to collective bargaining.
