Program Assistant – Full-time
Job Location; Capitol Hill, 5-minute walk from Union Station
Work Schedule:Â Minimum 40 hours per week
Salary Range: $43,000 – $46,000 depends on experience
About Us:Â The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) is a nonprofit organization working to improve vision health in the DC region. We provide eye care services, education, and support to help people see clearly and succeed in school and life.
We are looking for a Program Assistant who is passionate about helping others and wants to make a real impact in the community.
Responsibilities:
RAINING ON THE USE OF EQUIPMENT AND PROCEDURES WILL BE PROVIDEDÂ
You’ll be part of a team that delivers vision services at schools and community sites. No prior optical experience is required—we will train you.
- Help set up and run mobile vision clinics in schools and community centers
- Assist patients (children and adults) in selecting and fitting glasses
- Take glasses measurements (training provided)
- Enter client information into our system
- Help prepare and submit orders for eyeglasses and support eyeglasses tracking and delivery to participating schools and community centers Â
- Adjust and fit glasses so they are comfortable
- Support clinic operations (setup, breakdown, organizing supplies)
- Help keep equipment and inventory organized
- Provide friendly, respectful service to all patients
- Maintain inventory
- Maintain knowledge of organization policies regarding payment, exchanges, and returns
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products
- Follow HIPAA policies regarding confidentiality
- Carry out operational and administrative activities pre-, during, and post mobile clinicsÂ
- Perform other duties and projects, as required
 Other Duties:
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
- Perform other duties as assigned
 Qualifications:
- US citizen
- High school diploma (or higher)
- 2+ years of work experience (customer service or healthcare is a plus)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Organized and able to manage tasks in a busy environment
- Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel locally (DC, MD, VA) 3–5 days per week
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (equipment setup)
- Excellent time management, prioritization, and organization skills
- Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and Google Suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to carry out mathematical calculations
