RK&K is seeking a skilled Senior Structural Project Engineers in our Maryland, Colorado, or DC office to lead the design of bridge and other structural projects and the preparation of contract documents. This role requires expertise in applying AASHTO, ACI, and IBC codes and local DOT, and other client standards, conducting quality control reviews of calculations and drawings, and collaborating with structural engineers and CADD operators.

As a Senior Structural Project Engineer, you will be responsible for project research, drawing development, engineering computations, analysis, quantity take-offs, inspections), and preparing submittals to regulatory agencies. Mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with other disciplines and consultants are important aspects of this role.

 

This role may be performed remotely or from one of our office locations. Candidates based in approved U.S. locations are encouraged to apply.

Essential Functions   

  • Coordinate and lead structural design development and assist in providing structural direction to projects  
  • Perform structural analyses utilizing industry-standard software tools such as LARSA 4D, MicroStation, OpenBridge, STAAD, or similar programs
  • Provide senior level structural expertise on all project aspects associated with conceptual engineering, detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contract documents for construction followed by construction administration with respect to the structural aspects of the project
  • Assume responsibility of completeness and accuracy of design work  
  • Assess efficiency of contract document preparation and offer suggestions for improvement and implementation  
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to manage bridge and other structural projects from inception through completion
  • Coordinate with contractors and regulatory agencies to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
  • Maintain rigorous standards of quality and compliance with relevant codes and standards throughout the design and construction process
  • Conduct thorough reviews of design calculations, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and safety
  • Cultivate strong relationships with clients by understanding their needs, communicating project progress effectively, and providing innovative solutions to address their challenges and requirements
  • Mentor junior staff as needed
  • Assist with marketing and proposal efforts as needed

Required Skills and Experience    

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural focus including concrete design and steel design  
  • Minimum eight (8) years of bridge and structural design experience  
  • P.E. (professional engineering) License 
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as STAAD, LARSA 4D, OpenBridge Designer, AASHTOWare BrR,various other structural programs
  • Strong understanding of industry codes and standards related to structural design and construction (e.g. AASHTO, ACI, ASCE, IBC)
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact with clients and stakeholders
  • Valid drivers license and favorable driving record   

Preferred Skills and Experience   

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural focus
  • Prestressed concrete design, Finite Element Modeling, and seismic design experience, ACAD, REVIT
  • DOT structure/bridge experience
  • Successfully completed NHI Course #130055 - Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges
