The Senior Technical Director holds overall technical direction and technical quality accountability forĀ a program or project(s)Ā across variousĀ global healthĀ pillars.Ā TheyĀ set the technical strategyĀ andĀ decidesĀ how technical resourcesĀ are investedĀ against that strategy; andĀ holdsĀ final technical sign-off on what leaves FHI 360 under theĀ project(s).Ā The SeniorĀ TechnicalĀ Director serves as a strategicĀ global healthĀ leader within FHI 360, responsible for overseeing the implementation of multipleĀ technicalĀ portfolios and initiatives. This role providesĀ technicalĀ oversight to a divisionĀ comprisedĀ ofĀ technicalĀ teamsĀ ,Ā fosters innovation, and ensures the delivery of high-quality outcomes aligned with organizationalĀ objectives. The SeniorĀ TechnicalĀ Director collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to gather and share evidence, lessons learned, and best practices to drive continuous improvement and organizational impact. RESPONSIBILITIES /Ā DUTIESĀ
Technical Leadership & Direction:Ā
Sets the technical strategy for the technical pillars and decides how technical resources, staffĀ timeĀ and technical investment areĀ allocatedĀ against it.Ā
Holds final technical sign-off on workplans, technical deliverables and normative products before they reach the donor.Ā
Arbitrates technical questions that cross technical areas or awards ā indicator and case definitions, service package composition, data architectureĀ
Ensures technical approachesĀ are groundedĀ inĀ currentĀ normativeĀ guidance, and that FHI 360 technical positionsĀ are revisedĀ as that guidance changes.Ā
Sets the technical standard for integration across disease areas and healthĀ systems functions andĀ holds that standard in implementation rather than in proposal narrative.Ā
Serves as FHI 360ās senior technical interlocutor with the U.S. Department of State, ministries of health, and other normative bodies, and technical counterparts among implementing partners.Ā
Directs the technical response when the portfolioĀ is calledĀ on at short notice ā outbreak response, donor-requested surge, or a country program in difficulty.Ā
Builds the technical evidence base from portfolio implementation, including peer-reviewed publication, conferenceĀ presentationĀ and contribution to normative guidance.Ā
Provides senior technical leadershipĀ onĀ new business in these technical areas, including technical strategy, technical design and technical review of proposals and country buy-ins.Ā

At least eight years of the required experience in senior technical leadership of infectious disease or health systems programming in low- and middle-income countries.Ā

Experience as the senior technical counterpart to a U.S. Government donor, including technical negotiation of scope and workplans.Ā
Doctoral degree (DrPH, PhD, or MD with public health training) in a relevant field.Ā

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidates FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget. Ā For internal candidates, salary placement will also follow FHI 360ās current promotional increase guidelines. Final compensation will be determined in accordance with applicable law and FHI 360 policy.

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 7% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.Ā
