Position OverviewÂ
The Software Architect provides enterprise and solution architecture leadership in support of Department of Justice (DOJ) mission systems. This role is responsible for designing secure, scalable, and compliant software architectures that meet federal cybersecurity, data, and cloud modernization requirements. The architect works closely with government stakeholders, program managers, developers, cybersecurity personnel, and operations teams to ensure technical solutions align with DOJ IT strategy, Zero Trust principles, and federal mandates.Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
Architecture & Technical LeadershipÂ
- Design and document enterprise, system, and application architectures for DOJ mission and business systemsÂ
- Define target state architectures, transition plans, and technical roadmapsÂ
- Lead architecture review boards (ARBs) and technical design sessionsÂ
- Provide hands-on guidance to development teams on architecture patterns and best practicesÂ
- Establish reference architectures, reusable components, and design standardsÂ
Cloud & Infrastructure ModernizationÂ
- Architect solutions in AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or on-prem environmentsÂ
- Lead cloud migration and modernization efforts (re-platform, refactor, containerization)Â
- Design high availability, disaster recovery, and performance-optimized systemsÂ
- Implement DevSecOps pipelines and infrastructure-as-code patternsÂ
Cybersecurity & ComplianceÂ
- Ensure architectures comply with:Â
- DOJ Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)Â
- NIST SP 800-53 / RMFÂ
- Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA)Â
- FISMA, FedRAMP, and DOJ policy requirementsÂ
- Integrate ICAM, MFA, PKI, and role-based access controlsÂ
- Support ATO packages, system security plans, and security assessmentsÂ
Data & IntegrationÂ
- Design data architectures, APIs, and system integration patternsÂ
- Implement secure data exchange across DOJ and interagency systemsÂ
- Define data governance, metadata, and audit logging strategiesÂ
Stakeholder EngagementÂ
- Translate mission needs into technical architectures and implementation plansÂ
- Advise government leadership on technology selection and trade-offsÂ
- Produce briefings, white papers, and architectural decision records (ADRs)Â
Required QualificationsÂ
- Active Secret clearance (TS preferred)Â
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)Â
- 10+ years of software engineering and architecture experienceÂ
- Demonstrated experience architecting secure federal systemsÂ
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP – Gov environments preferred)Â
- Strong knowledge of:Â
- Microservices and service-oriented architecturesÂ
- Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)Â
- API design and integration patternsÂ
- DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelinesÂ
- Zero Trust and ICAMÂ
Preferred QualificationsÂ
- TS clearanceÂ
- Prior experience supporting DOJ, FBI, DEA, or other law enforcement systemsÂ
- Experience with FedRAMP High environmentsÂ
- Enterprise Architecture frameworks (TOGAF, FEAF, DoDAF)Â
- Relevant certifications, such as:Â
- AWS/Azure Solutions ArchitectÂ
- CISSPÂ
- SAFe Architect or equivalentÂ
