Job Description: Windows/Epic System Administrator

Position Summary

The Windows System Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of the organization’s Microsoft Windows server and workstation infrastructure. This role ensures the stability, performance, and security of enterprise systems that support clinical, administrative, and business operations.

The administrator is also responsible for creating, modifying, and deleting Epic user accounts, managing Epic security settings, and Epic software deployment/modification using the Kuiper distribution tool.

The administrator works closely with infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, and application teams, along with Epic analysts to manage system availability, implement best practices, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements such as HIPAA where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

System Administration

  • Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and related infrastructure.
  • Manage Active Directory services including users, groups, organizational units, and Group Policy.
  • Maintain system health, performance, and availability across physical and virtual environments.
  • Perform system upgrades, patch management, and lifecycle maintenance.

Infrastructure Management

  • Administer Windows-based services such as:
    • Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)
    • Group Policy
    • DNS and DHCP
    • File and print services
  • Support virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Manage server provisioning, storage allocation, and system capacity planning.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain system security configurations following industry best practices.
  • Apply security patches and vulnerability remediation in coordination with cybersecurity teams.
  • Monitor systems for unauthorized access or anomalies.
  • Maintain compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, NIST, CIS benchmarks).

User & Access Management

  • Support identity and access management processes.
  • Provision and manage user accounts, permissions, and system access.
  • Assist with role-based access control implementation.

Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • Monitor system logs, alerts, and performance metrics.
  • Diagnose and resolve server, application, and infrastructure issues.
  • Provide Tier II/III escalation support for service desk incidents.

Documentation & Process Improvement

  • Maintain detailed system documentation including configurations, procedures, and architecture diagrams.
  • Develop and update operational procedures and standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, automation, and reliability.

Epic User Provisioning

  • Create, modify, and delete all Epic user accounts
  • Manage and modify Epic security templates
  • Deploy, manage, modify, and remove Epic workstation software using Kuiper deployment tool.



Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience administering Windows Server environments, including:
    • Windows Server
    • Active Directory
    • Group Policy
    • DNS and DHCP
  • Understanding of enterprise security practices.
  • Administrator must also take Epic security administration class and pass certification exam within six months of joining the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware or Hyper-V).
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 or Azure services.
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools.
  • Experience with Epic is strongly desired
