The Technical Integration Subject Matter Expert (SME) is the senior technical resource responsible for cross-team dependency management, interface alignment, and integration planning across complex, interdependent enterprise systems. This role sits at the intersection of solution architecture and hands-on delivery. You will be resolving interface, dependency, and design conflicts across application, data, platform, network, security, and endpoint boundaries, and carrying those resolutions through implementation, testing, deployment, and operational transition.
This is a hands-on integration and delivery role, not a purely advisory or documentation function.
This is a hybrid role based out of Washington, DC. Candidates must be U.S. citizens.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cross-Team Dependency & Interface Management
- Manage dependencies across multiple interdependent systems, teams, and vendors.
- Lead interface alignment efforts across application, data, platform, network, security, and endpoint boundaries.
- Identify interface, dependency, performance, security, and lifecycle risks early, before they affect delivery.
2. Technical Working Groups & Reviews
- Lead or participate in technical working groups, architecture compliance reviews, technical design reviews, and phase-gate/implementation-readiness reviews.
- Facilitate resolution of cross-domain design conflicts (application, data, network, security, operations) under fixed milestones.
- Represent integration concerns in Government-facing review and governance forums.
3. Integration Design & Standards
- Develop and review context, logical, physical, component, interface, deployment, integration, and transition views at the level required for decisions and implementation.
- Define and apply approved integration patterns, common services, reference architectures, and reusable integration approaches.
- Translate solution requirements into secure, scalable, supportable technical baselines.
4. Tradeoff & Risk Analysis
- Analyze alternatives and tradeoffs involving cloud adoption, modernization, technical debt, rationalization, interoperability, resilience, and cost.
- Assess cross-vendor and cross-organizational integration risk and propose mitigations.
5. Implementation & Transition Support
- Support problem resolution during testing, deployment, transition, operations, and post-implementation stabilization.
- Coordinate engineers and specialists across platform, network, security, data, mobility, and ITSM teams to keep integration on track.
6. Documentation & Traceability
- Maintain architecture decisions, deviations, assumptions, dependencies, diagrams, and interface records in approved repositories.
- Ensure implementation traceability from requirements through design, integration, and deployment.
- Produce clear diagrams and decision artifacts, and explain tradeoffs to engineers, program managers, and Government executives.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
- 10+ years of IT experience, including hands-on systems integration, solution design, or common-services delivery in complex enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated integration experience across at least three of the following domains: application, data, cloud/platform, network, cybersecurity, endpoint/mobility, identity, ITSM, or operations.
- Experience with interfaces/APIs, dependency management, nonfunctional requirements, security and operational constraints, technical reviews, and implementation readiness.
- Proven ability to resolve cross-vendor or cross-organizational design conflicts under fixed milestones.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills — able to run technical working groups and explain tradeoffs to both engineers and executive stakeholders.
- U.S. Citizenship Required.
Nice to Have
- Experience in large federal or public-sector modernization programs, including nationwide data-collection or mission-critical systems.
- Experience with Sparx Enterprise Architect, Prolaborate, ArchiMate, UML, SysML, BPMN, or equivalent modeling tools/notations.
- Cloud, integration, architecture, or systems-engineering certifications.
- Experience with shared services, platform engineering, event/API integration, application rationalization, and zero-trust-aligned designs.
