TheĀ VideoĀ ProducerĀ andĀ EditorĀ willĀ support the Centerās video strategy by producing high-quality, engaging short-form video content across platforms. In addition to beingĀ one of twoĀ primary internalĀ resourcesĀ for all phases of video production,Ā this role will execute video projects from concept through final delivery, helping translate complex research findings into clear, compelling visual stories.Ā Ā
Working closely with researchers, editors, designers, and audience staff, the Video ProducerĀ andĀ Editor will ensure that all video content reflects Pew Research Centerās standards for accuracy,Ā clarityĀ and nonpartisanship.Ā This position reports to the Video Manager.Ā
This is a term-limited, grant-funded position expected to extend three years.
Primary ResponsibilitiesĀ
Video ProductionĀ and EditingĀ (70%)Ā
Produce and edit short-form video content for Pew Research Centerās website andĀ external platformsĀ
Proactively pitchĀ and developĀ original videoĀ concepts aligned with research releases and audience needs,Ā contribute toĀ scriptingĀ and storyboarding, in collaboration with the Video Manager, Video Lead and internal partnersĀ
Create motion graphics and animations that clearly communicate research findingsĀ
Provide hands-on production support across studio and field shoots, including camera operation,Ā lightingĀ and audioĀ
HandleĀ post-production workflows including editing, sound mixing, color correction, captioning and platform-specific formatting, ensuring optimization and accessibility across all distribution channelsĀ
Manage project timelines and deliverables to ensureĀ timelyĀ publicationĀ of video that isĀ aligned with research releases and responsive to audience needsĀ
Ensure all video content aligns with Pew Research Centerās editorial standards, brandĀ guidelinesĀ and commitment to nonpartisanshipĀ

Partner with research, design, digital and audience teams to translate research into engaging video contentĀ
CoordinateĀ pre-production planning, including production timelines, shot lists, interviewĀ preparationĀ andĀ logisticsĀ
Incorporate feedback efficiently whileĀ maintainingĀ editorial standards and production timelinesĀ
Collaborate with audience development teams on packaging, thumbnails,Ā titlesĀ and descriptions to maximize reach and engagementĀ
Work with freelance editors and vendors as neededĀ
Provide guidance to other staff on fundamentals of video productionĀ
Measurement andĀ Assessment (10%)Ā
ActivelyĀ monitorĀ video performance across platforms, tracking metrics such as retention, watch time, completion rate,Ā engagementĀ and audience growthĀ
Apply insights from analytics to improve storytelling, pacing,Ā formattingĀ and platformĀ packagingĀ
Contribute ideas for testing and experimentation (e.g., variations in hooks, thumbnails,Ā lengthĀ or release timing) and incorporate findings into future production decisionsĀ
Stay current with trends in short-form video, motionĀ graphicsĀ and social media formatsĀ
Education/Training /ExperienceĀ
B.A.Ā or equivalent professional experienceĀ
3-5Ā yearsĀ ofĀ experienceĀ producing and editing high-quality short-form video contentĀ
Strong news judgment andĀ demonstratedĀ ability to translate complex research findings into clear,Ā accurateĀ and engaging visual narrativesĀ
Strong scriptwriting skills with the ability to craft concise, compelling narratives for short-form formatsĀ
DemonstratedĀ proficiencyĀ in video editing software (e.g., Premiere, After Effects) and motion graphicsĀ
Hands-on knowledge of video production equipment,Ā lightingĀ and audio fundamentalsĀ
Interest in working with data-driven research or journalistic contentĀ
Fluency in interpreting video performance metrics (e.g., retention, watch time, completion rate) and applying insights to creative decisionsĀ
Understanding of platform-specific best practices for social video distributionĀ

The typical starting salary for this position is $75,000.āÆĀ

Hybrid Work Schedule:āÆPew Research Center staffĀ are required toĀ be present in the Centerās Washington, D.C., office three core days weekly (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).āÆĀ Staff may workāÆvirtually fromāÆremote locations on other days in a typical work week.āÆāÆāÆāÆāÆĀ
