Compensation:

SummaryÂ
The GIS Technician connects people to trees using maps and data. The incumbent supports the Tree Operations department on a range of initiatives including grant reporting, entering and maintaining tree planting data, drafting maps to support planting and conservation programs, and administrative functions.Â
Essential Functions
- Coordinates with members of the Tree Operations team to deliver mapping products in a timely and accurate manner
- Assists GIS Manager with administrative tasks in preparation for and reconciliation of tree installations
- Collaborates with GIS Manager and external partners to prepare, collect and analyze tree inventory and survival data
- Assists with preparation and delivery of maintenance maps (pruning, watering survivability), reconciling results with database at regular intervals
- Works in a team environment to produce, maintain and share geospatial data
- Performs maintenance updates on annually published public-facing maps and other cartographic resources using ArcGIS Online
- Assists with grant reporting in Tree Operations department by creating appropriate queries and report data from GIS database to GIS Manager and Tree Operations Director
- Supports completion of departmental administrative items including purchasing supplies, processing payables and receivables, and email communication with program participants.Â
- Contribute to organizational social media and weekly newsletter as requested
- Provide support and training for staff using GIS tools produced by Data Services team
- Assists with field work and community events on an as-needed basis
- Other duties as assigned

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesÂ
The incumbent will not have any direct reports.
Working Conditions
The incumbent works in the office and occasionally in the field to collect data. Must be able to use equipment such as (not an exclusive list): desktop computer, printer/plotter, smart phones, iPad, and other mobile devices.Â
Physical Demands:Â
- While this is primarily a desk job, all CT employees may engage in tree planting/related activities in outdoor environments, year-round in the heat, cold and inclement weather and must have suitable clothing. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to talk, hear, stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand on a stool, etc.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, non-exempt position, averaging 40 hours a week. The incumbent must be able and willing to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours when needed. This position requires and prioritizes in person components in CT’s office environment, in the field, and between CT sites. Â
Travel
Travel is primarily local to the greater Washington, DC metro area including occasional travel to Casey Tree Farm in Berryville, VA. Travel out of the area for training/seminars/events, etc., requiring overnight stay may be expected.Â
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, Forestry, or related field; or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Intermediate proficiency in ArcPro (including running geoprocessing tools, working with geodatabases, and creating map layouts) and strong cartography skills
- Experience with ArcGIS Online and ESRI StoryMaps
- Fluency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
