Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Network Installation & Maintenance

  • Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, wireless controllers, and related network hardware using approved tools and procedures.
  • Ensure all router, switch, and network equipment installations, repairs, and maintenance activities comply with Cisco best practices and proper procedures.
  • Perform additions, changes, and updates to network configurations as required.

Monitoring & Operations Support

  • Monitor environmental factors within data centers and network closets to ensure optimal operating conditions.
  • Utilize network management tools and related test equipment to perform monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of telecommunications circuits, including DWDM optical circuits.
  • Respond to Work Requests assigned by the Service Desk and track resolution through established systems.
  • Execute notification and escalation procedures as defined by the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).
  • Coordinate service status and issue resolution with the Service Desk and other stakeholders.

Documentation & Configuration Management

  • Use ServiceNow to track and document all changes related to switch runs, network closets, and monument setups.
  • Maintain accurate network equipment records in automated systems.
  • Update network maps and perform configuration management to ensure documentation reflects current network state.
  • Clearly and accurately document, monitor, and track all work using Footprints.
  • Ensure complete, accurate, and quality documentation is maintained at all times.
  • Prepare required technical and status reports.

Communication & Representation

  • Effectively communicate with technical staff, management personnel, and client stakeholders.
  • Attend meetings as an OCIO telecommunications representative and Subject Matter Expert when requested by the Library.
  • Provide clear updates regarding network status, incidents, and maintenance activities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in network administration or related technical support roles.
  • Hands-on experience installing and maintaining Cisco routers, switches, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools and troubleshooting telecommunications circuits (including DWDM).
  • Experience using ticketing systems such as ServiceNow and/or Footprints.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, and LAN/WAN environments.
  • Experience maintaining configuration management records and network documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow structured processes and escalation procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cisco certification (CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting federal clients or working within an OCIO environment.
  • Familiarity with data center environmental monitoring systems.
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise network environments.
