TITLE:  Operations Assistant

STATUS: Part-time

DIVISION: General Management

DEPARTMENT: Operations

REPORTS TO:  Operations Manager

POSTITION AVAILABLE: Immediately

ONSITE REQUIREMENTS: This position is a fully on-site position.  

 

THE POSITION

Studio Theatre is seeking a reliable and experienced tradesperson to perform various repair, maintenance, and renovation tasks across its properties. This part-time role (expected to be scheduled one day per week) provides targeted maintenance support for Studio Theatre’s main commercial and residential buildings, including four distinct performance venues in the main facility, two residential townhouses, and four condominiums. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Assistant ensures coordinated maintenance undertakings across Buildings Management and General Operations. This position works primarily onsite in the main building, with frequent trips to Studio’s other associated properties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform general maintenance and repair tasks in various areas, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting, etc.
  • Keep accurate records of completed work and materials used.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Assemble equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to assess and organize the Operations Workshop.
  • Inventory Studio’s storage contents and building equipment. 
  • Acquire, distribute, and utilize Operations Workshop supplies and consumables.
  • Administrative work as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • Participate in Studio Theatre’s on-going anti-racism work.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

  • Mobility: This position will regularly require movement throughout all of Studio Theatre’s buildings. This could include climbing stairs or ladders (up to 12ft), navigating small and dark spaces, crawling, squatting, lifting, and working outdoors. 
  • Manual Dexterity: Possess the ability to utilize shop tools regularly and efficiently.
  • Lifting/Carrying/Reaching: This role requires lifting and carrying supplies, tools, and equipment up to 50lbs with some objects being stored overhead.
  • Travel: This role regularly travels between multiple locations (Studio Theatre, Artist Housing, & Fellows Housing). All locations are within a mile of Studio Theatre; multiple trips may happen within the same day.
  • Comfortable working in loud or bright environments.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  • Loud noises, bright lights, dark spaces, heights, etc. 
  • Exposure to chemicals (ex., adhesives, coatings, cleaning supplies, etc.), pets (at housing) and pests, as well as dust and debris.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

This post requires a working knowledge of general tradesperson duties, the ability to investigate and problem-solve various tasks, and track results. We expect a candidate will have:

 

  • The ability to monitor project needs and coordinate with coworkers accordingly.
  • Comfort with, and a working knowledge of, basic shop tools.
  • Skilled knowledge of various trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance.
  • Attention to detail and an ability to own tasks from start to finish. 
  • The ability to work independently, manage up, and creatively problem-solve.
  • The ability to log work project details over time, as well as outcomes.
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and enthusiasm to work with teams with diverse identities

 

COMPENSATION: 

 

This position is a part-time, hourly non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $19.50/hour.
