Role Description:

The Supervisor, Equipment Reliability, is responsible for supervising proactive maintenance management at the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility focusing on preventive/predictive maintenance and reliability-centered maintenance to increase equipment reliability and reduce equipment downtime. Responsible for implementing supervising, coordinating, and tracking the departmental condition monitoring program.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Works as a team leader to develop formal procedures for Proactive Maintenance Techniques for corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance. Predictive maintenance techniques will include vibration analysis, infrared thermography (IR), ultrasound, and oil analysis. Outcomes from the predictive maintenance technologies will be recommendations to restore equipment function and reliability.

     

    • Supervises a crew of lubrication technicians who will perform routine greasing preventative maintenance activities at Blue Plains. These lubrication technicians, along with others within the group, will also commission all major rotating machinery rebuilds.

 

  • Supervises the preventative maintenance IR tasks to support equipment troubleshooting and commissioning effort.

     

    • Serves as the Department's principal authority leading efforts to establish and enforce performance standards for equipment specifications pertaining to balancing, alignment, lubricants, ultrasound, and vibration.

 

  • Participates in the ongoing development pf the department's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for the purpose of sustaining optimal system functionality.

 

  • Functions as Administrator for several computer software programs associated with vibration analysis, ultrasound, and oil analysis systems.

 

  • Facilitates discussions with other Foreman/Supervisors about equipment reliability.

 

  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Works closely with subordinates and contemporaries to plan, integrate, and accomplish day-to-day activities, departmental goals, and new programs. Provides daily planning and administration of the area of responsibility. Responsible for the selection, assignment, supervision, promotion, discipline, and training of personnel. 

Working Relationships: Interacts with employees in the department and throughout the Authority.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

Required Experience:

Five (5) years of progressive experience in the use of the predictive maintenance technologies to improve equipment reliability.

Extensive experience troubleshooting industrial process equipment. 

Experience using predictive maintenance technologies.

Minimum Education Requirements:

Associate's Degree in Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college, university, or trade school in a field related to preventive maintenance technologies or High School Diploma with ten (10) years of progressive experience, including five (5) years in the use of the predictive maintenance technologies, in wastewater treatment operations.

Required Skills:

Must be computer literate, proficient in the use of basic business software, and skilled in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. 

Must be proficient in CSI vibration and oil analysis software programs.

Utilizes personal computer and maintains a working knowledge of applicable software programs. (i.e., Word Processing, Spreadsheets. E-mail, etc.)

Can recommend corrective action based on predictive technology results.

Must be able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Required Licenses & Certifications:

Must possess within 18 months of hire all the certifications indicated: Level I Vibration Analyst Certification, Level I Machine Lubricant Analyst Certification, Level I Machinery Lubrication Technician Certification, and Level I Ultrasound.

Must acquire within 36 months of employment and maintain the current certifications indicated, Level II Machine Lubricant Analyst Certification through the International Council for Machinery Lubrication (ICML), Ultrasound Level II.

Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in both office and field settings to perform evaluations and observe actual in-service conditions.

Subject to indoor/outdoor environmental conditions that include exposure to extreme cold and/or hot temperatures.

Subject to noise, vibration, and to hazards from a variety of physical conditions.

Subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, chemicals, sewage, activated sludge, lubricants, and other cutting fluids and requires wearing personal protective equipment.

Work is performed in a heavy industrial environment, at pumping and treatment locations, in biologically contaminated underground facilities, including wet wells, electrical utility holes, treatment process tanks, around spiders, rodents and mosquitoes, and on high places such as roofs, cranes, catwalks, and towers.

Must meet the physical demands of confined space entry.

Must be able to climb a ladder.

Must have ability to be certified to wear full/half face respirator.
