Job Purpose:

The Evening Circulation Librarian is responsible for providing library services to our community Sunday-Thursday evening and overseeing the day-to-day and long term wellbeing of the physical and intellectual holdings of the library. 

Position Requirements:


The duties and responsibilities of the Circulation Librarian for the Library include, but are not limited to:


  • Create a welcoming atmosphere and provide assistance to community members in the evening and during study hours, Sunday-Thursday afternoons/evenings (2pm-10pm).

  • Ensure adherence to library rules and behavioral norms during study hours. 

  • Along with the Library Director, plan and coordinate annual collection shifting to rebalance shelving.

  • Manage New Book shelving, adjusting electronic records to match physical location as books are transferred to the main collection.

  • Adjust all signage as needed and/or at the direction of the Director of the Library.

  • Along with our library team, create appropriate displays of books and/or other materials to coordinate with educational programs and/or current/seasonal events. 

  • Sweep library for misplaced, used materials and reshelve as needed.

  • Coordinate shelf reading and biennial inventory of all circulating items.

  • Maintain Summer School/TEC library cards and login information.

  • Greet and assist all community members with locating library materials, accessing electronic resources, conducting research, printing, and any/all other library requests.

  • Retrieve and maintain reserve materials for library projects.  

  • Run regular reports for all checked out items, verify status of overdue items and coordinate their return with patrons.

  • Submit billable items to the business office.

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Library.


Minimum Desired Qualifications:


  • Experience in a school, college, or public library.

  • A strong desire to work with high school students from diverse cultures and backgrounds. 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. (Degree in History, Sociology, or the sciences will be given strong preference.)

  • Position requires close attention to detail and ability to work in a noisy, user-centered environment.

  • Must possess good communication and computer/technological skills, a desire to learn new skills related to the role and the ability to work well with others.
