Qualifications - High School Diploma; Knowledge of DMV and DOT regulations pertaining to vehicle maintenance requirements. Minimum of two years’ experience with light/medium duty vehicle maintenance. Valid New York State Driver’s License. Experience working with vehicle diagnostic equipment.  Â

Summary/Objective - Responsible for mechanical repairs to all agency vehicles. Responsible to respond to any emergency calls. Responsible to comply with DMV Article 19-A and Commissioner’s Regulations, agency policies, procedures and other items as assigned within the area of knowledge.

Essential Functions –
- Responsible to complete, as scheduled, all requirements for compliance with Dept. of Transportation, Federal Transportation Administration, with a focus on 19-A regulations.
- Work in conjunction with other Mechanics, supervisors, and partner service centers to ensure maintenance on Agency and Transit vehicles are performed, as scheduled.
- Researching and preparing cost and time estimates using software for work scheduled and tracking scheduled, as well as completed maintenance work.
- In conjunction with other mechanics, will advise the Transportation Operations Manager of the general status and condition of all agency and transit vehicles, especially as it relates to safety issues and vehicle replacement due to repair.
- Maintain computer records on repairs, along with a schedule for preventative maintenance and regularly communicate via email. Keep database of parts and tools.
- Will comply with all aspects of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicle Inspection, DOT, and Repair Station regulations.
- Diagnosing vehicle issues manually or with the aid of software or digital tools to include inspections of vehicles for defects and repairs or replaces them.
- Complete diagnostics on engine control systems, anti-lock systems and Air Condition. Will test drive vehicles prior to and following repairs as needed.
- Completes required preparation work/repairs on Transit Buses prior to DOT inspections, as scheduled.
- Respond to fleet break downs, accidents, vehicle issues, and emergencies, as needed.
- Remain flexible to the needs of the Agency.
- Maintains the work area in a safe/clean manner, use tools and equipment in a conscientious and safe manner.
- Ensure only authorized personnel have access to the garage, garage equipment, tools, parts and supplies. Â

Travel - Respond to all service calls, as needed and may include travel between counties on occasion.

Work Environment - Work is generally performed within an indoor garage and or outside when on callouts or emergency situations (parking lots, shuttle routes) in addition to some within an interior office environment, with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Work hours may vary and occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
