The Designer III is responsible for providing support for bringing new products and technology to the market as well as maintenance of current product design documentation. The position designs components and subsystems and collaborates with engineers to create models, drawings, sub assemblies and specifications in support of assigned design work. The Designer III participates in the product definition from scope of work to detailed specification, in DFMEA activities and performs analysis, tolerance stacks, basic stress and strain as well as fit and form checks of components to ensure proper function and appropriate definition is provided.

Basic Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Design or equivalent work experience
7 years of new product design for engine/motor driven machinery, equipment or powered tools
7 years of AutoCAD system use
Preferred Qualifications:
5 years of enclosure, mechanism, or electro-mechanical design work solving complex problems requiring analytical and mechanical skills
5 years’ experience in 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting tools, ideally in CREO and/or SolidWorks
5 years’ experience using Windchill PLM, SAP or comparably complex ERP systems and data management tools
2 years’ experience mentoring others
Experience in large CAD assembly management
Familiarity with basic electrical concepts and panel wiring
Knowledge of material specs and use including design considerations with a variety of materials (e.g. Sheet metal, plastics, castings)
Experience working on multiple projects and with cross functional groups on new product design and development
Strong understanding of drafting standards as well as GD&T aligned to ASME Y14.5 concepts and application
Strong tolerance stack, stress, strain and form, fit, and function understanding with extensive application capabilities
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including complex parts and assembly as well as manufacturability considerations
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, take an ownership approach for assigned area of responsibility; Ability to prioritize and stay organized in a changing environment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares and maintains detailed design 3D models and 2D drawings, schematics, specifications, kits, BOMs and/or instructions for field kits using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software in accordance with Generac and industry standards.Â
Works closely with design originators (e.g., engineers, other senior designers, etc.) with minimal supervision to resolve design details or discrepancies, or to prepare 3D models and 2D drawings of unusual, complex, or original designs and complex full assemblies, which require a high degree of precision using CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) or basic CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) software.Â
Identifies solutions and opportunities to solve design challenges on assigned projects.
Creates, modifies and controls a variety of detailed and, at times, complex documentation (3D models and 2D drawings) from engineers' and senior staff's sketches, plans, written and verbal instructions.Â
Participates in the development and maintenance of select departmental standards and procedures.Â
