Summary/Scope of Role

The Maintenance Tech Lead is responsible for directing the day-to-day work of a team of 5–10 Maintenance Technicians across multiple shifts, ensuring preventive and corrective maintenance is completed safely, on schedule, and to a high standard. This role oversees shift coverage and hand-off communication, leads troubleshooting on complex machine and facility issues, coordinates parts and vendor needs, and provides hands-on training and mentorship to team members. Duties may include but are not limited to machine maintenance (preventive and corrective), shop and facility upkeep, light plumbing/electrical/HVAC work, and other duties as assigned under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance and Facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Direct, schedule, and prioritize daily and weekly job tasks for 5–10 Maintenance Technicians across multiple shifts, ensuring consistent coverage and clear shift-to-shift hand-off
  • Training & Development: Train and mentor Maintenance Team members, including new hires, and provide ongoing training as machinery, tools, and procedures are updated
  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Oversee and personally perform shop and machine maintenance, including preventive and corrective maintenance and light plumbing/electrical/HVAC activities, per the direction of the Director of Maintenance & Facilities
  • Troubleshooting: Lead troubleshooting of machine and building issues, escalating and coordinating repairs to minimize production downtime
  • Parts & Inventory: Manage parts room organization and parts ordering, and coordinate the order/pick-up of parts at the directive of the Director of Maintenance & Facilities
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and lockout/tagout procedures across the team, and ensure work is performed in compliance with company and regulatory standards
  • Reporting: Communicate maintenance status, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities to the Director of Maintenance & Facilities
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Key Competencies

Leadership and team supervision, excellent communication skills, professional written communication, technical communication, customer service, diplomacy, professionalism, safety-oriented mindset, attention to detail, math aptitude, sound judgment, computer literacy (including CMMS/work order systems), negotiation, problem analysis and solving, decision-making, teamwork, collaboration, and project management.


Education/Experience

  • 3–5+ years of applicable maintenance experience, including prior lead or supervisory experience preferred
  • Welding experience
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC principles
  • Working knowledge of electrical controls, pneumatics, motor controls, and hydraulics
  • Experience with machinery maintenance, including building/rebuilding equipment
  • Metal manufacturing/fabrication experience
  • Experience working in a multi-shift, industrial manufacturing environment

Other Key Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and proof of insurability
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, including coverage across multiple shifts, weekends, and on-call as needed
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks including standing, bending, climbing, and working in varied plant conditions
