Description

The Business Development Director is responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing new business and clients for the firm’s civil engineering and land planning practice. This is a senior, externally focused role that owns the full business development lifecycle — from market intelligence and lead generation through relationship cultivation, pursuit strategy, proposal development, and contract award.

The successful candidate will shape, grow, and run the firm’s entire business development program. They will build and manage a pipeline of opportunities across private development, institutional, commercial, and municipal markets; cultivate relationships with developers, property owners, attorneys, architects, municipal officials, and referral partners; and represent The Pidcock Company throughout the Lehigh Valley and eastern Pennsylvania. This is a hands-on, self-directed role that pairs strategic program ownership with the day-to-day relationship work that converts connections into signed engagements.

The Pidcock Company values candidates who combine a genuine network in the region with disciplined pursuit management and polished communication. While this role is built around winning new work, it succeeds only in close partnership with the firm’s principals and technical staff — making collaboration, credibility, and a long-term, relationship-first mindset essential qualities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and run the firm’s business development program — strategy, pipeline, and reporting
  • Identify, research, and qualify prospective clients, projects, and developments across private, commercial, institutional, and municipal markets
  • Generate leads and initiate first contact through direct outreach, referrals, networking, and monitoring of land development activity
  • Manage the full pursuit process, from capture strategy and scoping through to signed agreement
  • Lead responses to RFPs and RFQs — shaping win themes and ensuring high-quality, on-time submissions
  • Build and maintain relationships with developers, property owners, attorneys, architects, and municipal officials across the region
  • Represent the firm at industry, civic, and community events; develop proposals and deliver polished client presentations

Requirements

  • 7+ years of business development or client-facing experience, preferably in civil engineering, land planning, or AEC
  • Demonstrated track record of identifying, pursuing, and securing new business with measurable revenue impact
  • Proficiency with CRM and pipeline-management tools for tracking leads, opportunities, and relationships; the ability to establish CRM practices where none currently exist.
  • Established professional network within the Lehigh Valley and eastern Pennsylvania development community strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of the civil engineering and land planning project lifecycle and the municipal approval process
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills — persuasive in proposals and in front of clients and public bodies
  • Highly organized and self-directed — able to manage many concurrent pursuits and build a program independently

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible / hybrid work arrangements
  • Medical, dental, vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Generous PTO + paid parental leave
  • Paid overtime
  • Performance-based incentive compensation
  • Industry & networking conference budget
  • Industry & civic membership reimbursement
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • Company laptop & smartphone with remote access
