SUMMARY: This position assists the Director of Machining in meeting team quality, cost, and delivery metrics. Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing process initiatives towards maintaining/improving existing processes and developing new processes. Responsible for developing CNC programs using CAD and CAM software; and operates conventional and numerical control machines.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Programming
    • Analyze part geometry to determine optimum machine assignment
    • Design fixtures and/or tooling to add/transfer parts to machines
    • Develop CNC programs using CAD/ CAM software
    • Debug, revise, back-up, and save edited programs to network system
    • Program dynamic probing cycles using Renishaw spindle probes 
    • Program cut-measure-cut sequences for lights out runs, using both custom macros as well as CAM generated probing cycles 
    • Program breakage/wear checking using Renishaw tool setters 
  • Process Engineering
    • Responsible for the development of routings and manufacturing instructions using manufacturing engineering practices
    • Evaluate and approve drawings, estimates production times, and routings/MI’s specs
    • Sets up and operates machining centers to fabricate metallic and/or nonmetallic parts
    • Downloads programming code through DNC system.
    • Confers with PDT staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods
  • Machine Set-Up/Operation
    • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut or enters commands to input or edit computerized machine control
    • Studies blueprints, sketches and drawings to verify conformance of finished piece to designated tolerance specifications using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, gauge blocks and coordinate measuring
  • Cost Reductions
    • Implement cost savings projects
    • Responsible for studying time, motion, methods, and speed involved in maintenance, production, and other operations to establish standard production rates and improve efficiency
    • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods with a focus on automation
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State-approved Journeyman Machinist with 3-4 years of experience required
  • Minimum 5 years of mill programming experience 
  • Proficiency with CAD and CAM software, word processing, spreadsheets, internet software, e-mail software, order processing, inventory, and manufacturing.
