We are looking for a Construction Loan Specialist to join our Mortgage team!
Please note this role is on-site at our Waynesboro, VA location.
DuPont Community Credit Union (DCCU) is currently seeking qualified candidates for a highly-motivated, career-oriented individual for a Construction Loan Specialist position with the Mortgage team.
What You’ll have the Opportunity to do:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for members, contractors, inspectors, and internal teams, providing timely updates and resolving issues throughout the construction life cycle.
- Collaborate with Mortgage/Commercial Advisors during the initial stages of loan origination to ensure the construction project adheres to DCCU policy and guidelines/procedures.
- Guide and support consumer mortgage and business members through the construction process, including construction‑to‑permanent loan structures, draw schedules, interest‑only periods, and permanent loan conversion requirements.
- Maintain complete and accurate loan files from the time of closing through conversion-to-permanent financing.
- Manage draw requests by reviewing invoices, conducting or coordinating inspections, and verifying progress against approved budgets.
- Coordinate approval of draw requests with Mortgage/Commercial underwriting, or as otherwise directed.
- Coordinate approved draw disbursements with Mortgage/Commercial processing, as applicable.Â
- Monitor project timelines, borrower equity injections, and adherence to approved plans.
- Identify and escalate potential risks such as delays, cost overruns, or contractor issues.
- Track loan performance, interest billing, and project milestones throughout the construction phase.
- Oversee the transition of construction-to-permanent loans into the permanent financing phase, ensuring all conditions are satisfied.
- Ensure that lien waiver forms and title policy endorsements are complete and acceptable.
- Maintain working knowledge of computer systems (core and applicable Loan Operating System) to maintenance loan records as needed.
What You’ll Bring to the Table
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in real estate lending required.
- Experience in construction lending is preferred.
- Courteous and friendly member relation skills.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with loan origination systems and Microsoft Office tools.
- Business-like appearance and attitude.
- Thorough understanding of credit union philosophy.
- Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment.

- Compensation and benefits:
- DuPont Community Credit Union offers a competitive starting hourly range of $24.82 to $29.20 in addition to an excellent benefits package including medical and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, pension plan, 401k with employer match, and generous paid time off. Starting salary placement in the range will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and skills.Â
