Job Posting Closing on: Monday, April 20, 2026  

Workdays & Hours: 

•    Monday - Thursday 7 am- 5:30 pm (4–10-hour shifts) or
•    Tuesday – Friday 7 am – 5:30 pm (4 – 10-hour shifts) 

This position is a first responder in severe weather conditions/emergencies which will be subject to work after hours, emergency call-back hours, nights, weekends, holidays and will participate in an on-call rotation schedule.

A Maintenance Worker position is available with The City of Fort Worth’s Transportation & Public Works Streets & Stormwater Operations Division. Stormwater Operations is seeking to hire a Maintenance Worker with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. The successful candidate selected for this position will work in the Vegetation Maintenance Program, Mowing Section and will be required to work outdoors, during inclement weather, around moving traffic and equipment, in and around water and in overgrown vegetation. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED
  • No experience required
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in Stormwater maintenance and operations
  • Experience and knowledge with hand/power tools
  • Work Zone safety

The Maintenance Worker job responsibilities include: 

  • Operating various hand & power tools (weed eaters, chainsaw, pole saw, shovels, rakes, picks)
  • Perform a variety of maintenance activities and other responsibilities in and around drainage easement areas
  • Perform construction and maintenance activities, such as weed eating, tree trimming and removal, concrete & inlet maintenance, other duties as needed
  • Work in various weather conditions. Work in overgrown vegetation, poison ivy, wildlife, in and around water
  • Traffic Control set up
  • Emergency call back for priority calls and/or weather events

Working Conditions

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Physical Demands

Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
