Job Title: Mechanical Engineer I

Reports to: Sr. Engineering Manager, Advanced Programs

Location: Onsite

KULR Technology Location: Webster, Texas

Travel: Some travel required for customer meetings, conferences, and design reviews. 

Position Overview:

Under limited supervision, the Mechanical Engineer I works cross-functionally with a team to mature designs and to adapt existing product designs to meet customer needs, a process which involves comprehensive CAD and design engineering, rigorous testing and analysis activities, interaction in a dynamic team environment, and interfacing with KULR’s customers. This position designs battery packs, modules, and safe-storage applications to support one or more of KULR’s product lines or customer builds. Overall, the Mechanical Engineer I focuses on the areas of battery safety, battery development, and mechanical systems. 

Functions:

  • Assist with the design, development, prototyping, and testing of mechanical components, assemblies, and products under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Create and modify CAD models and engineering drawings using approved design software while maintaining drawing standards and revision control.
  • Support the development and improvement of mechanical processes and assist in communicating critical design requirements to manufacturing personnel.
  • Participate in testing and evaluation of prototypes, components, and products to identify potential design improvements, performance issues, or failures.
  • Assist in developing and executing test procedures for materials, components, and assembled systems to verify performance against design requirements.
  • Support the assembly, integration, and troubleshooting of company products for internal testing and customer deliverables.
  • Operate 3D printers and related equipment to fabricate prototype parts and support product development activities.
  • Assist with CNC machine setup and operation for prototype fabrication and support the creation or modification of CAM files under supervision.
  • Document test results, engineering changes, and development activities in accordance with company procedures.
  • Participate in design reviews and team meetings, providing observations, feedback, and technical input as appropriate.
  • Support root cause investigations and basic engineering analyses related to product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to support product development and production objectives.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering. 
  • 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Science, technology or math background preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Basic understanding of battery systems and related hardware, including testing and analysis principles. Experience with lithium-ion battery systems is preferred.
  • Foundational knowledge of mechanical design principles, including interaction between mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Basic understanding of common manufacturing processes, such as machining, fabrication, and injection molding, and their impact on product design.
  • Familiarity with CNC machining concepts and manufacturing methods.
  • Exposure to the design, testing, or analysis of structural and mechanical systems through coursework, internships, academic projects, or professional experience.
  • Exposure to high-energy, high-power, or high-voltage systems is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or similar engineering design tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with team members across engineering, manufacturing, and other functional areas.
  • Demonstrated accountability, integrity, professionalism, and respect in interactions with colleagues and customers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze technical challenges and seek guidance when appropriate.
