Contract: NASA Cargo Mission Contract (CMC)

Department: Property & Configuration Management Department

 

Timeframe: Fall 2026

Part-Time/Full-Time 20-40 hours week 

 

The Property and Configuration Management Department supports NASA’s Cargo Mission Contract (CMC). This internship provides hands-on experience in property management, logistics, inventory control, and shipping/receiving operations that support NASA’s spaceflight hardware. Interns will gain exposure to multiple functional areas and learn how critical materials and equipment are tracked, protected, and delivered for spaceflight missions.
 

Primary responsibilities include:

Interns may rotate through several areas within the department, including:

1. Inventory Control

  • Support bonded room inventory operations, including check-in/check-out, tracking, inspection, packing, and reporting.
  • Process work orders both physically and electronically.
  • Assist with designated inspections, restocking, and documentation for NASA spaceflight hardware.
  • May require climbing ladders and lifting items up to 40 lbs.
     

2. Shipping & Receiving

  • Assist with the coordination, documentation, and processing of inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Review incoming shipments for accuracy and integrity.
  • Support packaging, labeling, and documentation in accordance with ISO, DOT, IATA, and NASA standards.
  • Complete inventory transactions for received and transferred items.
     

3. Process Support

  • Participate in special projects, process improvement initiatives, and departmental support activities as assigned.
  • Collaborate with team members to enhance efficiency, compliance, and documentation accuracy.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and safely handle materials and hardware.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.

 

Course of study desired: Supply Chain Management, Property Management, Logistics, CIS, MIS

 

Specific skills and expertise desired (programming languages, technical knowledge): MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint

 

Other general experience, skills desired:  Good written and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently after instruction is given.
