Job Description

The Director of Student Involvement and Leadership provides vision and leadership for the Office of Student Involvement & Leadership. The Director oversees a comprehensive co-curricular program including advising, training, leadership development and support for student government, clubs, organizations, societies, and student-run businesses; supports engaging and a robust program of campus events that encourage the development of community and promote student wellness; and a leadership development program consistent with Wellesley’s model for leadership development. Provide strategic direction for the Office of Student Involvement including assessment of current practices and department effectiveness, knowledge of current trends and best practices, development of an innovative vision and successful leadership of staff.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise staff of Associate Director of Student Involvement, three part-time staff members, and six student assistants to provide a student involvement program that encourages student engagement, promotes holistic student development and which responds to student interests and needs

  • Advise a breadth of approximately 200 student clubs, organizations, and societies on leadership development, group dynamics, event management, and financial management

  • Serve as primary advisor for an active and engaged student college government. Develop a training program every August that provides support, leadership development, and goal setting for the college government leadership. Additionally, serve as a strategic thought partner to student college government leadership, offering constructive challenge and alternative perspectives as needed to support sound decision-making and sustainable governance. Attend college government Senate meetings and college government cabinet meetings.

  • Plan and coordinate key campus leadership events, serve as  the leader in the expansion of the college’s student leadership development program and explore the possibility of a student leader training committee

  • In partnership with college government and campus organizations, develop and implement training and leadership development opportunities for student leaders of clubs, organizations, societies, and cooperatives

  • Oversee the development or modification and implementation of procedures, policies and protocols that minimize risk and give students clear guidance

  • Management departmental budget and work with the controllers office to ensure that the student college government allocates and reconciles student activity fee to the 200 clubs and organizations.

  • Responsible for managing the relationship between student-run businesses,  student run media, including the radio station and newspaper and the college including finances and space management. 

  • Collaborate with the Events Office to manage space allocation for student events and learn how to use the web-based scheduling tool 25-live for student organizations including the development and oversight of processes and protocols for event management 

  • Oversee the implementation and development of online student organization management system, Campus Groups “Wengage” including building a comprehensive education program of the system for students and campus partners

  • Establish and maintain ongoing assessment and evaluation of the quality of campus involvement and engagement

  • Responsible for negotiation and execution of all contracts for student events.

  • Take the lead in planning and implementing hazing education and prevention efforts for student leaders and members of student organizations and societies

  • Lead the planning and execution of the Camellia Student Leadership Awards which includes the nomination process, selection, and celebration ceremony.

  • Participate in key campus committees including the Leadership Working Group, Committee on Lectures and Cultural Events, Orientation Planning Committee, and Drug and Alcohol Incident Reduction Team

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • ​Supervise staff of Associate Director of Student Involvement, three part-time staff members, and six student assistants

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field

  • 8+ years of progressive higher education experience

  • Experience in student involvement, student activities, union management, or closely related field

  • Experience with collaboration with individuals within and outside of a student life division.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer’s sponsorship now or in the future

Skills and Abilities:

  • Shown ability to successfully supervise and lead staff

  • Administrative knowledge in event planning and budget management

  • Process-sensitive person with excellent problem-solving skills, well organized and strong written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and advise student groups and student leaders.

Flexibility & Schedule:

We value a collaborative hybrid environment. Our standard schedule includes three days on campus to connect with the team, with two days of remote work. *Please note: This hybrid schedule is subject to business needs. As this role involves essential in-person commitments, a degree of flexibility is required. 

Salary:

The pay range for this role is $102,000.00 - $104,000.00
