The Chemistry Department of Wellesley College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor position in Chemistry for the Fall 2026 semester. The successful applicant would teach two or three biochemistry labs and one introductory chemistry lab, in coordination with respective lecture instructors, for a total of three or four labs in the Fall. If the candidate desires, they may be able to also teach two labs in the Spring 2027 semester; the yearlong position would be benefits-eligible. In addition to class meeting times, the candidate will hold regular office hours in person, promptly respond to student inquiries throughout the semester, and attend relevant teaching team and departmental meetings. There are no expectations for this position regarding formal academic advising. The candidate will be expected to engage in professional development and departmental service as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Applicants should have a broad background in chemistry or biochemistry, experience teaching undergraduates, and strong teaching, writing, and interpersonal skills. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by the time of appointment, although candidates who are ABD will be considered.

Wellesley College is a highly selective liberal arts college for undergraduate women located in the suburbs of Boston, USA, with a student body of ~2300. In recent years, the NSF has ranked us as the top liberal arts college nationally in terms of generating female Ph.D.s in STEM fields.

Basic Qualifications:

PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry (or ABD)

Position Information:

Teaching Load:

Fall: 2 or 3 biochemistry labs and 1 introductory chemistry lab & Possible Spring: 2 labs

Term of Appointment:

Fall semester only: 3 or 4 lab classes (30% or 40% FTE) -OR- Yearlong position: 5 or 6 lab classes (50% or 60% FTE, which is benefits-eligible). This position is not renewable.

Target Start Date: Fall only = 12/31/26, Yearlong = 5/31/26

Minimum Salary:

Fall 3 courses: $22,500

Fall 4 courses: $30,000

Yearlong position: $37,648 or $45,177
