This is not an entry-level posting.

Paws Around Motown is a premium pet care company in Oakland County. We're hiring an experienced pet care professional into an advanced field role — and we're paying above our standard field rate because we're looking for someone who wants to grow into leadership with us.

Let's be direct about what that means.

You start in the field. You work our services, learn our standards, and prove your judgment where the work actually happens. Nobody at PAM steps into leadership on day one, and we don't hand out titles for time served.

As your field proficiency and judgment are demonstrated, we add leadership responsibility — schedule and coverage work, the leadership phone line, shift leader duty, supporting and developing other team members. Your starting pay reflects our commitment to develop you and your commitment to grow.

We can't promise an outcome, and we won't pretend otherwise. What we can tell you is that this is how we build our leaders, and this role exists specifically to do it.

What we need from you

  • Demonstrated proficiency in professional pet care
  • Sound judgment under time pressure — you decide well when nobody's available to ask
  • Reliability that never wavers, and open availability
  • The ability to lead by example and hold a standard without being harsh about it
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license and Michigan-standard auto insurance
  • Pet CPR and Pet First Aid certification
  • Prior leadership, scheduling, or supervisory experience preferred

What the work involves

  • Performing our full range of services: dog walking, adventure outings, pet sitting across species, pet taxis, overnights, and in-home care
  • Pet Wellness Checks, detailed reporting, and SOP adherence
  • Covering gaps and absorbing the unpredictable work others can't
  • Growing into schedule, coverage, and shift leader responsibility

The schedule — and this is a real selling point

We're building a leadership bench deep enough that nobody lives on their phone. Weekend rotation is designed at one weekend per month, with weekday days off in trade. Scheduled days off are set, not floating. Closing shifts are fixed to the same day each week. You'll know your schedule and you'll actually get time off.

Physical requirements: frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Frequent lifting or moving up to 60 pounds. Outdoor work in varying weather. Exposure to animal waste, insects, and environmental hazards.

Pay: $17.50/hour to start — above our standard field rate, reflecting the advanced scope and the development commitment.

Employment: W2, non-exempt. Part-time to full-time. Oakland County.

If you've built real skill in this work and you want somewhere to take it, apply. Tell us about a time your judgment made the difference.
