Job Description Summary

This role is an engineer in shop position. A materials engineer is needed with expertise in manufacturing and processing of polymer matrix composite (PMC) materials. This engineer will work with suppliers and production shops to improve processes and problem solve production issues to ensure safety, quality, and timely delivery of PMC hardware.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the materials application engineering (MAE) team at GE to understand the form, fit, and function of hardware and the processing methods needed to produce parts.
  • Visit manufacturing shops per business needs to problem solve issues with safety, quality, and delivery of GE hardware. Will require professional but assertive communication skills to interface with both internal and external organizations to drive progress and accountability.
  • Regular communication with MAE, design, manufacturing, and quality counterparts at GE to report on progress and get feedback on additional opportunities for improvement.
  • Create and maintain action plans for key programs being worked at GE shops. Rigorous documentation of actions, deliverables, and schedules for communicating progress to GE peers and leadership.
  • Collaborative problem solving, with the humility to take input from a diverse team of contributors. Balance and objectively assess input from peers, leadership, customers, and suppliers to inform the best solution.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for on-site support.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of 5 years’ Manufacturing Disciplinary Engineering and/or Science experience

Desired Characteristics

  • 8 -10 years' Manufacturing Disciplinary Engineering and/or Science experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
  • Prior experience working in manufacturing / production facilities, including documentation and implementation of complex processes informed by expertise in PMC material systems.
