Project SEARCH Teacher

Full Time Mon - Fri, Flexible Schedule

10-Month Position (August through June)

Phoenixville Hospital - Phoenixville, PA

KenCrest is seeking a Project SEARCH Teacher to support our Employment Program’s Project SEARCH internship rotations at Phoenixville Hospital.

Our Employment Department works to create a streamlined process to assist our consumers every step of the way as they navigate through the progression of finding and maintaining gainful employment.

As our Project SEARCH Teacher, you will connect with Phoenixville Hospital, Employment Support Specialists, and student interns with disabilities to improve the quality of training and student learning in any of the core content areas (reading, language arts, math, science, or social studies). Your focus will be on specially designed instruction to support student interns’ skill development during experiential learning rotations within the host business. You will communicate routinely and effectively with stakeholders, collaborate within the cross systems planning team, and assist in developing paid employment outcomes for student interns. After successful completion of the internship cycle, you will : seek an appropriate community job site consistent with the students’ interests and skills, as well as determine and refer to appropriate community support services for training and successful employment.

A successful candidate for this role must be patient, able to motivate students, understanding of your students' special needs, and accepting of differences in others. You must be creative and able to apply different types of teaching methods to reach students who are having difficulty learning. Communication, cooperation, and collaboration are essential skills since special education teachers spend a great deal of time interacting with others, including students, parents, and school faculty and administrators.

Qualifications:

  • Teaching Degree including Special Education Certification in the State of Pennsylvania, required
  • Professional knowledge and proven use of effective teaching strategies and curriculum-based assessments
  • Strong desire to work with at-risk students
  • Must meet all PA Department of ED standards, including IEP development, meeting and evaluation completion within required timelines providing instruction in functional academic skills that will support future employment, independence, and skills of daily living
  • Driver’s License and a clean driving record
