Wondering what a day in the life of Systems Engineer IIat The Iowa Clinic might look like?

The Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s core IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and cloud services. This role ensures compatibility with enterprise applications while supporting operational continuity.
As a mid-level engineer, this position takes ownership of infrastructure systems, provides advanced technical support, and contributes to project planning and modernization efforts. The role requires strong troubleshooting skills, technical expertise, and collaboration across teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain Windows server environments and identity infrastructure
- Manage virtualization platforms, storage solutions, backup systems, and Microsoft 365
- Develop and maintain automation solutions and infrastructure-as-code practices
- Lead incident response and resolution efforts
- Balance responsibilities across operational support (50%) and project/modernization work (50%)
- Participate in after-hours/on-call support for maintenance and incident response
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability and performance
- Support a professional and positive work environment across the organization
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive patient and financial information
- Assist team members as needed and contribute to overall team success
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills across diverse audiences
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational, coordination, and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain calm and focused during high-pressure situations
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving abilities
Education:
- Associate’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
- 3–6 years of enterprise systems engineering experience
Certifications (Preferred):
- Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified Administrator Expert
- Microsoft Certified Endpoint Administrator Associate
