Fire Protection Systems Engineer

What you will doĀ 

In this vitalĀ roleĀ the Senior Facilities Fire Prevention Systems EngineerĀ is responsible forĀ providing Fire Protection/Fire Alarm engineering support and collaboration with HVAC/Utilities/Architectural SMEs at the Amgen Ohio and regional sites.Ā 

Ā 

  • Provide technicalĀ expertiseĀ to leadĀ fire prevention systems designs (fire sprinkler, fire alarm, gas detection,Ā fire code, and FM insurance)Ā forĀ facilities & utilities capital projects (both GMP and non GMP)Ā 

  • Interact withĀ Factory Mutual our insurance provider, regulatory bodies, Building Officials & Fire Marshall'sĀ 

  • Interact with A&E and ConstructionĀ ManagementĀ firms to deliver projects on budget and scheduleĀ 

  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and fire systems issues in the fieldĀ 

  • EnsureĀ optimalĀ and cost-effective, code compliant, and insurance optimized facilities and utility systemsĀ 

  • Develop, organize, analyze, and present results for operational issues and engineering projects of moderate scope and complexityĀ 

  • Support development of life cycle management strategies for facility fireĀ protection, fire alarm, and hazardous gasesĀ life safety systemsĀ

Doctorate degreeĀ Ā

Master’s degree and 2 years ofĀ Operations or Engineering experienceĀ

High school diploma / GED and 10 yearsĀ ofĀ Ā OperationsĀ or Engineering experienceĀ

Preferred Qualifications:Ā 

Ā 
  • Bachelor’s Degree orĀ Master’s DegreeĀ inĀ Fire Protection/Ā Mechanical/Ā Electrical/Ā Architectural Engineering or related technical field (NICET 1-IV in Fire Alarm and/ or Fire Protection)Ā 

  • 5+Ā years experienceĀ in engineering in a manufacturing support environment with some experience of GMPs in the Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology, Semi-conductor industries, Naval or Merchant Marine.Ā 

  • Experience managing projects of small/medium size from concept to funding approval/execution requirements definition, options analysis, all design phases/review/approvalĀ 

  • Experience with Commissioning up of facilities & fire alarm systems, fire protection systems, gasĀ detectionĀ and alarm systemsĀ 

  • Experience with freezers/cold rooms, HVAC systems, fume hoods, bio-safety cabinets, laminar flow benches, chiller & cooling tower systems, fire protection, fire alarm, close loop pumping systems, electrical systems/motor controls, building automation, chemical storage & handling, H-occupancies, laboratory equipment/laboratory gasses, vacuum systems, boilers and steam/condensate handling, compressed air/gasses, cryo-gasses, fuel handling systems, tank farm, data centers, architectural/roofing systems, elevators, material handling equipment, warehouses & loading dock equipment, parking structures, underground piping/utilitiesĀ 

  • Detailed understanding of Building Codes, including chemical usage & hazardous classificationĀ 

  • Direct experience and familiarity with FM Insurance Loss Prevention Data Sheets, FM Approvals, and FMĀ RoofNAVĀ 

  • Direct experience with regulated environments (i.e.Ā cGMP, OSHA, EPA, state IBC/ IFC) including understanding ofĀ cGMPsĀ 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ā 

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and facilitation skills and ability to work in a collaborativeĀ team basedĀ environment.Ā 

  • Ability to apply analytical skills to evaluate and interpret complex problems using multiple sources of informationĀ 

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional projects teams and embrace a team-based cultureĀ 

  • Familiarity with designing and operating equipment used in biopharmaceutical manufacturingĀ 

  • Ability to travel 20%Ā

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.Ā Ā
