Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our Operations Department as a Lead Meter Service Technician. This position provides technical and work leadership within the Meter Section and plays an important role in ensuring the accurate operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the District's wholesale, retail, and internal water meter systems.

The Lead Meter Service Technician works closely with the Meter Section Supervisor and assists with coordinating daily work assignments, training Meter Technicians, monitoring system performance, troubleshooting meter and communication issues, and responding to customer and operational needs.

What You'll Do

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitor the District's AMI network and identify and troubleshoot meter and network communication issues.
  • Test, troubleshoot, calibrate, repair, and install water meters and automated meter reading equipment.
  • Lead and participate in wholesale, retail, and internal meter testing, inspections, repairs, replacements, and related field work.
  • Read and monitor commercial, industrial, and wholesale meters for billing and system-use purposes.
  • Analyze meter and system data to investigate usage, verify accuracy, and identify potential problems.
  • Assist the Meter Section Supervisor with scheduling work assignments and coordinating Meter Technician activities.
  • Assist with training new employees and provide ongoing instruction regarding safe and effective work practices.
  • Use computerized maintenance management software to schedule and track preventive and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Prepare reports, complete work orders, maintain records, and assist with budget requests and inventory needs.
  • Work directly with customers to respond to service concerns, investigate meter-related problems, and coordinate repairs or replacements.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service and other District departments regarding new services, meter stations, billing information, and meter-related projects.
  • Assist with performance evaluations and provide work leadership to Meter Section employees.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Post-high-school vocational study in mechanical maintenance, electronics, electricity, or another technical field.
  • At least two years of job-related work experience.
  • Prior lead, supervisory, or project-management experience is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, coworkers, contractors, and other District departments.
  • Basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and maintenance-management software.
  • Ability to safely operate and use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and field equipment.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Utah Driver License
  • Utah Grade IV Distribution Certification
  • Respiratory medical evaluation and respirator fit testing
  • Flagging certification
  • Forklift certification

Work Schedule

This position normally works four 10-hour shifts, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., either Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday. Changes in schedule and occasional overtime may be required to complete system maintenance or address customer-service issues.

This is a field-oriented position with regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions and frequent work in traffic environments. The position is not eligible for remote work and is eligible for a take-home District vehicle for daily use.
